Nina talks mixtapes on Neon Magazin.

If you speak German, and have the opportunity, it would be a good idea to pick up the March issue of Neon Magazin where Nina talks the perfect mixtape.

Here is some of what she has to say:

You receive a CD, on which a total stranger has compiled 16 songs for you. The mix is perfect. Could it happen that you fall in love with this stranger just because of that mix-cd?
Nina: If the mix would really be perfect, it would knock me off track at first. The songs would have to include small hints about the stranger and make me curious… but yes, then it would actually be pretty likely for me to fall in love.

Which three songs would have to be on this compilation?
Nina: “Unchained Melody” by Al Green. “Oh My Love” by John Lennon. And “Meet Me Here At Dawn” by Cass McCombs.

Would this compilation have to start with a soft lovesong or a rocksong?
INina: t would have to be a beautiful, sad song. Or it is hot.

The most beautiful and saddest song you know is?
Nina: “I See A Darkness” by Bonnie Prince Billy”.

Which is the one Cardigans song you would put on a compilation for a friend?
Nina: “Higher”.

Which two songs work perfectly in a row?
Nina: “Blue Velvet” by Bobby Vinton followed by every song by Julee Cruise.

By principle: Are mixtapes or mix-CDs adequate means to confess one’s love for another person, anyway?
Nina: By now I am brave enough to start things more offensively. I’d rather talk directly to people, whom I am interested in. But after you’ve gotten over with it, beautiful music is of course a nice adding.

How do you yourself mix: rather following the principle “slow song / fast song” or rather like “slow / slow / faster / fast / fast / slower…”?
Nina: I mix somehow like this: slow / slow /slow / slow / slow / slow/ 80’s Rock / slow / slow / slow…

Which is the best song for these news: “I’m going to go away for some weeks now, but I love you and I’ll miss you terribly”?
Nina: “Genius Of Love” by Tom Tom Club.

The best song for the sad news: “Oh, you really thought I had fallen in love with you?”?
Nina: “I Am a child” by Buffalo Springfield.

The best song to tell someone the relationship is over?
Nina: Sorry…but I would have to tell that face to face. Only sorry fellows break up by mix-CDs.
