This is one of the most poorly cobbled together tests I've run across that tries to ascertain a person's political views. Some of the questions have nothing to do with politics at all. For example: It bugs me when somebody names their child something like 'Sunshine' or 'Charm'. It doesn't bug me personally one way or the other, but even if it did, I can't fathom how this question would give a clue about someone's social/political views. Truly strange.

I don't know if everyone got the same questions, but some other odd ones I got were:

Only literate people should be allowed to vote. Who thinks this? Some Nazi or commie maybe?

or this one:
People raising children have a responsibility to live up to society's standards. Standard of what? Economic standards? Clothes? Cookies? What if the society has crappy standards? What then? This question makes no sense! It should have been more specific!

Tradition is a reliable guide in deciding what's right. Again, needs to be more specific. It depends on the tradition, of course.

If I'm dating someone I like to know where they are and what they're up to at all times. ????! Is this really a statement that comes from a more left or right viewpoint? Are stalkers typically more liberal or conservative?

I'd be very interested in how they categorized the answers to some of these questions.

Anyway, to be fair, the test did have a few smart and sensible questions, but overall it's pretty lame. (No offense to the person who posted this thread, but that's my thoughts on it.)

Hey Bac thanks for the link.

I can see how those questions are irrelevant. And I really wouldn't have labeled myself what this test said I was. I'll take the ones you linked me to and see what I get there.

Of course, I do.
Imagine that I date (only) two women.
I need to know where the first is, when I meet the second. I can't go to the same restaurant !!

Only literate people should be allowed to vote.

Hum.
I think this is one of the best questions.
Can we honestly answer no ?
Our countries aim to get 100% of adults who can read and write.
Our states spend much money and time (time of state employees) for it.
We try to build countries where everybody can read and write.

It was probably different in other civilizations. For example, the countries with "forum" (antic forums) were caring more for spoken discussions. Probably few people could read and write. Even the most famous ones, we have no proof that they wrote their own texts. Did Plato or Aristotle ever write a line ? Maybe they just "told" or "spoke" the texts.

Our civilization is like it is. We try to spread reading and writing. It is the door to knowledge for everybody.
I think the vote system should show it.

I am not 100% yes for the answer. Who can answer 100% yes or 0% no ?
I am surely more yes than no. Much more yes.

bac vs. questions:

your gripe seem invalid. those questions are there so that they can process how you feel and not just how you think you feel on certain subjects.

Exactly.
And about the same question If I'm dating someone I like to know where they are and what they're up to at all times.

THEY are
THEY're up
You see, we are required to date (or imagine) at least two people at the same moment.
Or maybe I am wrong.
In french, "someone" is singular, and "they" is plural, and there is a mistake. Is it the same in english or american ?

I'm sure you need to assume that the kind of people who'd name their child 'Sunshine' or 'Charm' are far-left hippies ... well, post-modern hippies, anyway. The kind who wouldn't be aware of the mass theft that went on with such a lifestyle originally. I could go off into more detail here about the particular events that set Charles Manson off to begin with, but I won't. Anyway, the names could bug some people. You know ... likewise ... when someone names their child with a slight variant on the name of their religion. Whoops ...

I prefer the ontheissues.org questions, especially as they had background information on each issue (useful for non-US people). It labelled me a Populist-Leaning Liberal, though "liberal" can mean whatever you want it to mean.
I'm socially liberal but economically I'm quite mixed: in the US you'd probably call be a socialist, in Europe I'm more on the liberal edge of a social democrat.
In any case I don't get to vote in the US so it's all a bit theoretical.
Greetings from Brussels, federal capital of most of Europe...
