...12 hours from now for the next president of the U.S.

fellow cardifans: cross your fingers and hope that we Americans can come together to do the right thing and bring to this country/world a leader whom we can depend upon to contribute to the reestablishment of a global community of cooperation, faith, trust, and friendship.

Any US voters reading this: go vote! Even if you find the candidates not to your liking, you cannot claim they are all the same. It will make a difference, however small. Billions across the world cannot vote and generations have struggled for this right: do not take it for granted.

Me and my co-workers were joking about how it would be funny if there was another Bush/Gore Florida incident.

No. that's not funny. 2000 was a terrible election, with big consequences because of some stupid machines. Not funny at all.
Al Gore would have been better with a Bush landslide than ending up with the worthless prize of winning the popular vote.

What time is it for you? Aren't you busy voting...??

I'm off to bed and catch the results when I wake up...

So, it is good to have a black person at a very high responsibility position in the USA.
That proves something against racism.

Else, I don't share at all the happyness of some french newspapers or of mister Sarkozy (who is the french president if someone missed his regular try to become worldwide famous).
First Sarkozy was friend of Bush 2 years ago. So it seems he is always friend of the american president. Where is the change ?
Secondly, some french newspapers, Libération and le Figaro suddenly desire an american president who would rule the world. I never liked imperialism, and fortunately, Obama never told words that sound like that. Some french newspapers can't analyze the difference between a long term evolution (about racism) and short-term or middle-term questions or problems. Fortunately, other french newspapers are more realist.

If we want to say something about black people, we can say that here, most of them accept physically difficult jobs (that most "white" french people don't really wish), and do them seriously. It is a real solidarity with all "white" french (we have to oppose the color when we describe racism or anti-racism) during a bad economical situation.

....in the most general of all elections worldwide next year. and so are over half of the people on this forum. still the presidential election of US gets more press coverage european wide than the eu parliamentary elections has ever gotten. strange. Representative democracy never wins any popularity contests, still most of us thinks it´s the best way to go. than why don´t we give it any time of day? just a thought that came to my head watching the us elections and how passionately europeans were involved...

...because bugsy, the European Parliament has nowhere near the power and influence of a US president. Presidential elections concentrate a certain amount of power in one person so it's easier to focus on electing just one personality.
Surely you can't claim that the EPP, PES, ALDE and other acronyms carry quite the same excitement...? And yes, sadly we follow the US election closely because of its effect on us, which is more that can be said of the EP.

But don't let that stop anyone voting wherever they can. Most of the world does not have this right...
