This week, I had the occasion of visiting the nordic library.
Part of their books are about history, and some interest me.

I noticed something.
Some of their books (and these ones are rather the actual ones, displayed on shelves) never interest me.
And the library was nearly empty, so it seems they interest few people in Paris.
I could watch the first pages (as they were on the shelves).
It seems they care for a kind of beauty. Beauty in northern landscapes, and beauty in objects.
For example, many of us buy objects in Ikea, and some of them are "design".

Is it pretty to my eyes ?
Design, euh, little.
Landscapes, yes, I like some of them, but photos it is not the reality of a landscape, at least not to me.

Who cares for that in France ?
I will take one example. Among the people I know, some have (in my opinion) a very well decorated flat.
Their flat is decorated with old pictures of Paris, and copy of old african objects.
Nothing "modern design". And no photo of landscape.

Does french people ignore discussions about beauty ?
It seems obvious that french people (part of them at least) do care. Beauty of their flat/house, of their clothes or hair or face or body or ...

Concerning beauty, there is a distance between Paris and Sweden...
We care for beauty. But concerning nordic beauty, visiting Ikea is the greatest move. That never leads us to visit a swedish library or to buy a swedish magazine. Is it a problem of language, is it a real distance ?
