You listen closely to cardigans discography and say "wow, never heard that before"?
So the game is to describe a sound you find really cool, maybe add a little clue like the time it occurs in the song...

In this hit song
at 1:51-1:54
and at 1:58-2:01
there is a background sound effect
is it vocal overdub, synth or guitar? |

(here's a different song & clue)
This song starts with 7 squeaks and ends with 3.
Can you guess what makes the sound? |

^hey it's not that hard!
The first one I said was a "hit" song so there is only a few real "hit"songs.
And the second one really does start " squeak, squeak, squeak...
and end "squeak, squeak, squeak".
(clue: yes there is maybe one note of synthesizer at the same time) |

the real hit might be lovefool, but considering the synth, you are reffering to MY FAVOURITE GAME.
And regarding to the squeak, squeak thing... I'm thinking about "OUR SPACE". Am I wrong? |

Yes. My favourite game!
Do you hear what I'm talking about?
As Nina sings, in the background there's an effect.
What is it?
But your secong guess is wrong : ( |

^ of course! GT. Cool sounds.
What I mean is listen closely when Nina sings,
(1:51)"I had a vision I could turn you right"(1:54)
and
(1:58)"I should have seen it when my hope was new"(2:01) |

2nd song:
I'm sorry I should be more accurate!
The other song, when i say" squeak, squeak, squeak.."
in English is a "squeak" sound.
But really it sounds like "sshhhuunnt......ssshhhuuunnt"
So it begins sssshhuunnt...sssshhuunnt....
and ends sssshhuunnt...sssshhuunnt.... |

Not that old.
It's based on a Black Sabbath song. |

Iron Man?
It has an effect on the intro drums like "reverse gate"
sounds kinda "backwards", the attack... |

-oh, great, I think I have F.B.O.T.M. ---on cassette!!! : )
If memory serves, I would guess Losers
as "Sabbath-inspired". |

Oh-no!
Now I actually played that freakin' cassette! I switch batteries from a remote to an old cassette Walkman! (Losers is kinda Beatley-more than Sabbathy, I forgot...)
So given your last big HINT I would guess you're referring to the Devil's Tri-tone effect. That devilish chill you get from those three odd notes.
Found in Black Sabbath and the three notes in Happy Meal II.
(Although, I do hear Sabbath in Choke , too with that opening & repeating musical phrase da-da-da-da-da-da-da ) |

The song I had in mind was Heartbreaker, but there's no silence between Heartbreaker and Happy Meal II on the album. They are glued together. So it must be very difficult for you to hear where one begins and the other starts on your cassette.
btw. I would like to have that cassette. |
