Maybe the economic uncertainty has everyone depressed? Thus, less posts. I check the boards from time to time. I don't post cuz nothing really interesting going on. But on a good note I'm going to see The Sounds on Nov. 7.

I hope the concert was good. Let it be officially known that I'm jealous you got to see them. The Sounds completely avoided Ireland for the European tour and yet I didn't have the money to fly over to the UK or Germany to see them.

The show was great. It was by far top three best live shows I've seen thus far. And that's saying something, seeing that I'm not much of a fan of live music. To me you kinda lose something when you hear something live as opposed to listening to the album. I wasn't too sure how they would sound live but I've seen clips of them live so I was excited. The Sounds did not disappoint. Awesome show, awesome set list and Maja sounded so great. They did a piano/solo versions of Home Is Where Your Heart Is and Midnight Sun (I think). And during the encore they did Tony The Beat differently to everyone's surprise and content. All in all awesome show. I will definitely see them again when they are in town. Hope you get to see them too!

Re: Pelican - been awhile since I've seen a heavy
band- elements of Tool, Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, Kyuss in an instrumental band from Chicago. They like to tune their guitars down to C or B -so heavy and experimental with some memorable riffs and melodies too. Mmmya!
Two weeks before I got my fix of Joan Osborne (haven't seen her in like 8 years!) but I love her voice. This time out she was backed by a keyboardist for a couple songs then brought out opening band Holmes Bros. as a backing band ( bass guitar drums, black men in their 60's who play awesome mix of blues, soul, funk and rock)
another cool show the likes I've never seen...
I recorded the show with my Zoom H2- it sounds pretty good.
I was concerned about the concert volume level causing distortion to the recording. So I chose the mid setting for the microphone. I placed the recorder in a thin sunglasses bag and hit record as i walked into the hall. The top end (mic) was poking out of my shirt pocket.
I didn't want to get hassled by anyone for taping...
I took a seat ten rows back because there was some empty seats at the ends of some rows and there seemed a good distance 10m to the PA.
For the last song I took the recorder out of the bag, set the mic to high,
and there was a noticeable difference on playback. It gets clearer and brighter. I should have used this setting.
Also I chose a seat with no one beside either way. People in front but no one directly behind me.(trying to avoid crowd noises).
I should have set the recorder on the(sprung up) seat beside me so i could relax better. (Try holding your, breath and coughs and squirming around in your seat for an hour!) And in the thin sunglasses bag it would just appear to be my cellphone, probably...(I also put tape over the red recording lights to be extra careful not getting caught...but I don't know-in the cellphone age- does anyone really care about bootlegging anymore?

I know what you mean. I wasn't even frisked when I went to see The Sounds. People had they're cell phones out in the open recording away and bouncers and staff didn't say anything. Was it a deal the band made with the venue? I was pretty upset because I could have brought my iPod and recorded the whole show.

Timing, timing, timing. It's all about time zones I guess. No one's here when I check in from time to time.

Ah! Valeria's photo is so green! A welcome thought in winter.
I'm actually more intrigued by her avatar.

^ Oh I know it's you! I've seen your photos too.
(But they are mostly of nature, outdoors , in colour.)
I was thinking of how you took the photo.
In black and white, the camera flash looks like a candle flame,
or a dandelion.
It is very well composed and lit.
(maybe you were inspired by the cover of LGBD? I love how their faces
are lit by candlelight.)

This is very interesting comparison! I like the cover of LGBD very much and the music too, certainly :)
I made this photo when the mirror was situated behind my back...
By the way, what is the weather now in Canada?

is Kv2.0 from Canada? We're hoping to be in Vancouver for the Olympics in Feb, or a simpler visit later in the Spring. Cardifan meet up? Vancouver has some nice clubs as does Seattle and other towns in between - border town Bellingham is home of Estrus Records and Death Cab for Cutie formed there.

Valeria- I am in the most southern region of Canada. Detroit Michigan is
actually North of my city ( Windsor) separated by 2km of Detroit River.
It is about 0'C now. Mild winters here. Sometimes in January or February we get a few days of -15, -20C weather. Cold, but not Russian cold!

cross_ide : I would love to be in Vancouver and Whistler for the Olympics but I'll be working- I'll watch some on TV.
The distance from here to Vancouver is like the distance from Madrid-Stockholm! Hope you have a great time!!

^ Kos. I've been watching it if you mean the American version
With that scheming Russell he's fun to watch but can he hold it together and win?
In answer to what Olympics to watch - I would watch a little hockey when it gets to medal rounds, I love skiing events especially the racing ones.

I meant the Serbian version. In second season which is on air right now they gathered competitors not only from Serbia but also from Slovenia (where I live), FYR Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. Basically all ex Yugoslavian republics except Croatia. It's watchable.

Regarding Olympics, I'm into ski jumping (love the sport), Alpine skiing (love it, also chance to win medal - Tina Maze), cross-country skiing (chance to win medal - Petra Majdic) snowboarding (chance to win medal - Rok Flander) and ice hockey (great sport). It's gonna be fun!
