Small-Talker

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up about Nina Nastasia's new record. It leaked quite some time ago so I'm pretty familiar with it by this stage, and I have to say that it's one of the most impressive records I've heard in a long, long time. What start out as simple folk songs turn into the most majestic pieces of work I've ever heard, with strings swooping in and out of focus at will. This stuff is unbelievable.

As far as I can make out, the lyrics discuss the concept of somebody outlasting their own destiny. If free-will was an illusion - and the course of one's life and eventual death were decided at birth - what would happen if somebody averted their own death? What kind of existence would one lead if the universe (or "God") believed that your soul had passed on and was no longer present or recognisable as a being on Earth? If you were completely "forsaken" by whatever spiritual entity governed our entire existence? Deep shit, huh?

Anyway, here's the tracklist. Out June 4 in Ireland and Germany, June 7 in the UK and June 22 in the U.S. and Canada.

Tracklist:
01. Cry, Cry, Baby
02. Moves Away
03. You’re A Holy Man
04. You Can Take Your Time
05. This Familiar Way
06. What’s Out There
07. A Kind Of Courage
08. Wakes
09. One Way Out
10. Outlaster
