I can't believe I haven't posted this here yet of all places.
If you haven't seen it, please check out the animation I did for Communication. Thanks!

There's a bit of info about what I did in the description on youtube, but basically I did a lot of good ol' fashioned rotoscoping.

I have all this nice footage of the band from over the years so I wanted to do something with it.

I first took the original footage into Final Cut just to organize my shot sequence. Then I imported each clip into Photoshop as a frame animation.
Using a Wacom tablet, I painted over each frame in photoshop one frame at a time. (3,200 frames in all). Although, I broke this process into stages. Usually I did the outlines first, then the shading and then the highlights. I took the old footage and stretched it over a 1920x1080 canvas so I could make it full HD.

Anyhoo, after that I import the frame sequences from photoshop into After Effects and do the frame rate interpretation in there as well as the final touches and organizing of background and such.

But basically, 85% of my time was spent drawing the frames in Photoshop.

I think this is pretty thorough answer!

Thanks, Fede! Well, Magnus had some very nice things to say. :-) I don't remember exaclty what he said (I'd have to go back and look), but it was very positive. I would be curious to know if the rest of the band has even seen it, but I may never know... Just glad people are enjoying it! Makes it worth the effort!

Yes, it's similar in that it's one frame at a time, but it's drawn where-as, generally, stop motion is typically moving an object(s) around.

Nice job Bac, trippy and loose. Hadn't listened to Communication in a while. That line "I hold a record for being patient" is still a stand out for me.

Much thanks, sir! :-)
Communication is just a great song. It was a pretty obvious choice for this project in my opinion. :-)
