Johnny Cash - American Man lll: Solitary Man.
Especially the song "One" is great, much better than the original by U2.

that summer had its charm
Suzanne Vega - Luka

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before

If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble. some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

I think it's because I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud

They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
Well, if you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
I guess I'd like to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing thrown

Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am

Catchy song, wonderful voice and yet so sad and powerful lyrics. Respect!

Clouseau - Domino

my girlfriend and I share a special bond over our Suzanne Vega fandom.
On the way home from work an hour ago, I was blasting loud

XTC - 'Extrovert'

the other side of the cassette has Dukes of Stratosphere (XTC's side-project 60s psychedelia).
'Extrovert' is an outtake of sorts, with a guitar sound similar? to SEG. Last I read, Andy P. is using a 'fancy' guitar made by someone in Maryland, usa. Maybe a techno-doppelgänger with Peter's Line6 setup?

Ivana Banfic & Hari Mata Hari - Navodno

Today, I visited a zoo.
In order to find the root of something.
I felt a bit touched by the animals, but not touched as sad, touched as a form of communication. It sounds a bit like this song, like the voices or the music, as the lyrics have no meaning for me.

The Cardigans - 8. Explode EuRock99

Oh, it is the fate of the stars in the distant sideral world.
The author of the song knows about this reality.
One more alien in this world.
Come on, where did she/he (did Nina really write it all ?) park her/his UFO ?

Gary Moore - Over the hills and far away

It is a typical integrist christian song.
It is two lovers, but they can't have a child now, they feel it is not the moment.
As they are integrist christians, they can't use contraception, so he must leave for some years.

And they create a stupid story, and they fool a judge (also they kill someone, but that is a detail), and he must leave.
A simple story in fact.

Nightwish - Over the hills and far away

Ah no, there is no murder in the song.
Hum.
I wonder how he fooled the judge. In fact, he probably didn't.

I mean, a murder, that is a bit too much for the character, so we can imagine he managed to fool the judge.
But in this song, it is not a murder, just robbery with guns.

Lovers are a bit mad, and after such "hours" with a wife (and in order to offer something to the husband of her), some lovers would do a robbery. So probably the robbery, he really did it. Then the judge was right, and not fooled.
Also, it can be worst. Maybe he was used to doing robbery, with his best friend. And his best friend was usually checking for the details (for example, don't forget the guns inside the robbed store). But this night, he does the robbery alone (because he wants to offer the robbed things to his best friend, as an excuse or a way to "buy" the freedom of his wife, and so he must get the money by himself). And he forgets something (like he often does), and his best friend is not present and can't help.
And the next morning, the police finds his guns and arrest him.

So there are two possibilities.
One bad but pretty (his first robbery, with a huge mistake).
One is nasty (except if he does like Robin Hood and usually gives the money to the poor and hungry people, but I forget it, and try to keep it simple).
So this song is rather nasty.

:(
Anyway, the singers sing well (both versions, Gary Moore and Tarja Turunen). So the song is pretty.

Texas - Summer son

I am sure the first title was "summer girl".
It sounds about sport, judo or something like that.
And because of questions of strength and weight, men usually practice with/against men, and women with/against women.

Then she wanted to play with the word "sun". So she changed girl into son.

Sirenia - First we take Manhattan

The funny part of the cold war.
Americans get scared so easily, it is (in books, many years later) nearly funny.

Theatre of Tragedy - ...A Distance There Is...

In fact, we watch far away. And that influences us, and that creates inside us structures, structures identical to what we see.
Or to what our parents saw.

The human brain is a kind of sponge. The visual aspect of a brain is a bit similar to the visual aspect of a sponge.
So yes, we may be connected to distant structures.
According to our modern knowledge, these structures influence us. Nothing proves that we are influencing them.. Is the connection only one way ?

Ю.Бодай - Двічі в одну річку не ввійдеш
М.Басков - Ти,моя Україно

Today, few people probably like ukrainians.
I don't like them today either, although I am not really able to judge their attitude.
So I just remember the music that I liked.
You have music that we could never create in Western Europe, and that the USA never created. It is a detail, but identity is also that.
