Thanks for your info, spacedogpie. Granted the one half-concert took place back when the venue was still the Palace. Never heard about any separate rooms there. Perhaps they were added when the place was renovated?
Nevertheless, while you seemed to catch a break with your show, I have accounts of at least two weekend concerts there within the past year (Soundtrack of Our Lives, Saint Etienne) where said bands admitted they had to cut things short due to venue restrictions. Plus I know someone who attended a weekend Anthrax show earlier this year, and he said that due to mutliple bands playing, the first band came on around 6:30! If there was really no issue with cutting bands off early, no sane club promoter would ever have a band start their set as early as 6:30 because they know no one would be there. And I can't imagine any of these bands being forced to play in some side room, so I'm guessing the main room was affected.
So still color me pessimistic about the length of this show. Like I said in my first post-- you may get more than an hour out of them, but you won't be getting what everyone else will be getting. When you compare venue sizes, the El Rey would've been a much better option if the tour schedulers were hellbent on doing a show that weekend (I don't think the El Rey has had any regular club nights since that drag club 5 or so years ago). |
