Ummm... yeah, that's a good point. It really won't hurt to buy tickets, though, because if they cancel, you can always get a refund.

I didn't see anything about a Philly show, but just got a email from ticketbastard saying the on sale date for the NYC show. These are the dates on pollstar:

Mon 09/18/06 New York, NY Irving Plaza

Wed 09/20/06 Toronto, ON Opera House

Sat 09/23/06 Chicago, IL Metro / Smart Bar

Fri 09/29/06 Hollywood, CA The Avalon

Sat 09/30/06 Solana Beach, CA Belly Up Tavern

Toronto is now cancelled. Without the big shows like Chicago and New York, I expect the whole thing is cancelled.

I hate to have to be the person to say this, but no one here should be too upset about shows being cancelled that were never really scheduled to begin with.

I mean, Magnus did warn us about this. I know it's easy to get excited about these things, but who are we to believe? Magnus who's been giving us the straight dope for months or some ticketmaster website?

It's sad this has happened, but so close to September I don't see these shows being rescheduled - save for some really good last minute record deal negotiating.

I'm not going to get my hopes up till I see "official" word on this website.

hmm I wonder what will be left on the tour... toronto, montreal, anc chicago cancelled... Even though we were told, I feel as fans we still have the right the feel a little cheated, it might not be the fault of the band, or the veneu. we will not know unless they tell us.

Remember they need us too...

Yeah... it does suck. And I still feel a bit cheated even though I didn't get my hopes up.
But I mainly feel cheated by Universal.

How can they be selling tickets and such if the tour was never confirmed?
I hope you add Chicago to the tour if you do end up in the US. It would be the most amazing concert of my life!

I was wicked upset by the news that the tour was cancelled, but mainly at those promoters who got our hopes up for nothing. Its pretty irresponsible and unprofessional to sell tickets to something that doesnt exist. ugh. I feel like this will be a factor in deciding when to come to Canada again, because screw with them once, they may be weary the second time around. just a thought.
This was also supposed to be my birthday gift...

You know, say what you will about promoters being overzealous, or management issues, or whatever, what it all comes down to is this band really just stuck it to their North American fans. I sure hope this tour is just being rescheduled to fit a better timetable or "budget" as was mentioned earlier. To cancel the whole tour and skip North America definitely sends a major statement on how important you think we are. Thanks a lot.

Again, as frustrating as it is for us fans over here, the band didn't do this to us. They never announced a North American tour (although I admit the latest news posting makes it sound as if they had.) They had plans to tour, but that's it - an official, actual tour was never announced on this site. Ticketmaster, Pollstar, etc. announced it without the band's ok.

They don't have a record deal in the U.S. or Mexico (only Canada), so obviously that would make it difficult to tour in support of an album that isn't easily available to the people in that country.

Or... go back and read some Magnus' 5,000 posts about the unconfirmed U.S. tour.

I guess that means no official album release in the US either. Record labels are so stupid.

Have you read the first post on this very topic?

I don't know if the album and tour go hand in hand, but an ad for the now-cancelled show in L.A. stated that SEG would be released on Sept. 19.

A million apologies to BrianfromLA: I guess I persuaded you to go to the AVALON show in LA...well it is now CANCELLED.

Of course, I'm NOT upset at the Cardies...more upset at Ticketmaster and the concert ads posted in various LA magazines...

Here's what Ticketmaster sent me:
Hello, this is Ticketmaster Customer Service with an important alert
for
your upcoming event. The Cardigan's scheduled at The Avalon on Friday,
September 29th, 2006 has been cancelled.

Your credit card will automatically be credited the ticket price and
convenience charges, and should post to your account within 7 to 10
business days. Please note, the $4.60 per order processing fee and any
TicketFast or UPS delivery charges are non-refundable.

Oh well, I guess I'm out $4.60.

For a band that's given out nothing but love to all their American and Canadian fans, I don't see how we can blame them or be upset with them. It's very disappointing, yes. I view the Cardigans as friends, and I think they feel the same way about us. Nina always addresses fans as 'friends'. I can't imagine this band would in a thousand years intentionally 'stiff' the N.A. fans.

Though it raises some questions:
-did LGBD sell significantly more copies in the US than SEG has? If not, I wonder why there's trouble getting a N.A. tour off the ground this time. E.g., I didn't see any Cardigans videos for LGBD on MuchMusic, but there did seem to be a fair amount of response to the Fine Wine single/video. Am I wrong?
-did Brasil buy more copies of SEG than N.A.? Or are there a pile of other factors?

Magnus has said that the money side was taken care of, but family issues forced them to cancel their plans.
