Which song did she play there? The Led Zeppelin cover?

She sang "Whole Lotta Love".
There's a link to it in older thread somewhere.
You can download it, but I don't think it's ok to ask about it here. Or maybe that's just "official" audio recordings (mp3s, etc.) not sure...
Anyway, it is out there...

It is not a recorded track, so it's not illegal or anything. Just an performance I would love to have on my computer :)
I was hoping somebody had a link to download it or something :/

More than likely, no one would care (esp. since it's only .wmv quality), but you never know these days now that YouTube.com is getting sued and so forth...
Cause technically, someone usually owns the rights to the video.
It's sort of a grey area...

They're getting sued by some amateur photographer and a helicopter pilot. If the big companies thought they had a chance, they would've put a stop to V.Google before it even started up. If YouTube went, then Google Video would have to go - and none of the record labels that have made millions from selling their music videos there would like that very much. Plus, YouTube is protected by the DMCA Act of 1998, so they can't be touched.

And I'm converting my SWF of this performance to AVI right now. I'll post it later ... because my view is: if broadcasters don't want live performances shared online, they shouldn't have broadcasted the performances in the first place. Or they should at least make their intentions of releasing the performance on DVD clear from day one.

I doubt that the lawsuit(s) are going to put any of them out of business. But it may very well scare them into screening what goes on their site a little better.

I imagine it's very similar to the audio biz in that companies will happily support YouTube or Google Video provided they (the companies that own the footage) make money. Sorta like the difference between Napster (as it was originally) and ITunes. One the music business likes much more than the other.

I somewhat agree that TV performances are much more of a grey area since in most cases there's never any intention to sell the footage to the public or anyone, but technically they can still say they own the material. But yes, usually the idea is they make money once or maybe a few times from re-runs. Normally you can't buy these things at your local Best Buy.

I'll do trades of my Cardigans video collection as long as I'm sure it's not taking anything out of the band's or record company's pocket. So, I may give someone a copy of the band performing MFG on Donnie and Marie for another Cardigans performance that I can't buy at a store - but I don't want to profit a single penny off their back.

It is interesting, though, what the TV industry will turn a blind eye to. They have these things called Video Monitoring Services (VMS) all over the U.S. All they do is record news programs and turn around and sell the segments people who didn't manage to record themselves! And they do make some serious money.

So... I'm not sure that many of them care all that much. I guess because they make all the money from advertisers when they broadcast it. Whereas the music industry is much more dependent on individual buyers at a record store.

i really wonder why things like that vms aren't used much more. i think it's quite stupid of tv or radio stations to neglect this branch of money making.

an example: there's a radio station here (radio eins) that airs their own recordings of live shows in and around berlin quite regurlarly. sometimes, when there's a festival, they may even air the whole thing live. i imagine it must cost them quite a bit to ask the venues and artists for permission, then bring all their recording devices there and sometimes do an interview with the artist as well - only to broadcast this thing once or twice over the radio.

last stummer i went to a concert of an artist i really admired and found out only there that this radio station was airing the whole thing live. so i requested a recording afterwards, i told them i'd pay for it if only they could send me a cd or mp3 with the recording. it took 6 mails until someone finally replied - they told me they didn't give out such recordings.
so what happened was that i asked a friend to rip the recording from internet radio when they aired the show again some months later. the radio station didn't get any money from me, though i would have loved to support them. but they simply didn't care.

plus i know a record store where they sell 'fan-made' cds of recordings of exactly that station. a friend of mine bought a recording og beth gibbons live in berlin there. that cd - like mayn others - does look quality, and it costs around 10 euro, but yet you can see it's are not official.

i think it's stupid of radio eins t neglect this as i think many people would like to buy official released recordings, i think in this case (international bands on regional radio, and in a decent quality - and i don't mean just technically good) there might even be people who might collect them!

Yeah, I agree that it's a bit surprising in a way, but on the other hand, I guess it's because when broadcasting began back in the 40's there were no VCRs for the average consumer, so the only they had to make money on was the advertising.

By the late 70's it was different, but they didn't really change their ways. Well, obviously some things get sold now, like episodes of Lost or the Simpsons on DVD and VHS, for example. But you can't buy the 9am news at any DVD store or every game show that's ever aired. Only certain things.

But stations do have the extra problem of space and actually managing all that stuff. If news shows tried to sell every bit of footage they had in stores, they'd probably go out of business pretty quick.

^you're very right about that storage problem, and it might also be difficult to make a decent market analysis of what poeple would acutally buy, but they could still make it via internet, and on demand.

Actually, y'know, I'm not sure what I was thinking...
It doesn't matter with this performance because the entire freakin' show was posted for download on the TV4's site.
So, ok, here's a link to just the Nina/Soundtrack of... performance.
Sorry for the low-quality, but it was low to start with and I had to squeeze it down more to put on rapidshare.
Enjoy.

thanks a lot Bac! ,this feels like an early christmas present because I couldn't get the wmv stream work with my mac so I couldn't watch it with my own computer. But now I can, thanks!
And the download worked well for me, so don't know what the problem was, but hopefully it's now ok.

annika:
Did you scroll down and select "free" download? You then have to wait a minute or two for the Download to start.

vilmari:
No prob! I have Mac G5 and I used MPEG Streamclip (a great free program) to trim and convert the wmv to mov. Glad it works, man!

Hey annika,
I'm uploading the video to my myspace site. It'll be an MP4 file, so hopefully you can play that.
So, look in my "videos" on my site.
As soon as I have a direct link, I'll post it here. Right now, the server is too busy so I can't upload it just yet.
