Why did they call it G.T.? yes yes, i know. they said its cuz they played the g.t. game during the recording... but thats not a reason to call the album (you have been working on for months) like that.

could it be possible that it would be some kind of publicity $tunt for the game? i mean, the game manufacturer paying the cardigans to have Gran Turismo as their title...
i really doubt that the cardigans would do something like that. and im sorry if i offended you guys by thinkin you might actually do this... but yuknow. im just wondering

I'm guessing they like the name.

Why isn't a reason? They can call the album whatever they want, I guess :D

Anyway, I think I read some time ago that Magnus told someone in the Ask the band section that they made some kind of deal with the people of the game. I don't know if putting that name to the album was part of the deal though.

Peter said that this album conveys a certain journey to the insight of ones personality. Thatīs why itīs called Gran Turismo. It has nothing to do with the PC Game in particular!

Ģukaszek $.
actually I was thinking about it last time and I think I understood the title finally, but it's hard to explain. it's close to whatCharlieCharlie has writen, just it but more advanced.

it's like... some kind of journey, a race of emotions, long hard way to go... as I said, I can't really explain it, you have to feel it

Let's settle it once and for all then.
I have two quotes from Nina.

"It fits the idea of being a tourist in your own life. That common human issue of feeling dislocated in the world, trying to participate and interact but being prevented by either inner or outer obstacles. - Nina, 1998 Mercury Records Gran Turismo press release

"That was funny 'cause we had no idea that we would be sitting two years after and talk about Gran Turismo the video game just because we made a record called Gran Turismo. We aren't that knowledgeable in pop-culture that we realized there'd be a connection. We did get a free PlayStation each and stuff though..." - Nina, 2005 Musikjournalen interview

And I know there are more quotes confirming this - like the one CharlieCharlie mentioned - but I have yet to read something from the band where they say that the album is named for the game.

GT also had a lot of electronic tweaking so it kinda goes well with the name of an electronic game. The artwork is cold, it's a good album to drive to, there's the video of MFG, it all fits around the theme.
Compare and contrast with the warmth of LGBD as an album and as a title, the more in your face of SEG, the playfullness of Life. I think they all match the mood of the band and the music at the time.
