hello all! it's nice to see so many fans gathered in one place! i'll post this both here and in the swedish forum so perhaps someone can help me. i was wondering if someone could translate this line into swedish:

"i don't know how to connect so i disconnect."

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

"jag vet inte hur connect so jag disconnect", haha, sorry, thats a very poor and sad translation from a finnish guy, just what first came in my mind and I don't even remember the words anymore, and I have a swedish test coming up after a month so, but there's still many days time to learn.
I know that soon someone who really knows some swedish will come and help you with that.

The problem is that "connect" and "disconnect" aren't similar words in Swedish and that the word "connect" in Swedish can be so many things depending on the situation. "Anknyta", "ansluta" "förbinda", "förena", "koppla" and more. Most those words could fit into the context of the song, with only minute differences in significance, but my best adaptation (which still sounds goofy) would be:

"Jag vet inte hur man kopplar på, så jag kopplar bort"

It doesn't quite say the same thing as in English, but there's the connect/disconnect = koppla på/koppla bort similarities that is the centre of the phrase. More significantly correct translations could be:

1) "Jag vet inte hur man anknyter, så jag bryter anknytningen"
2) "Jag vet inte hur man ansluter, så jag bryter anslutningen"
3) "Jag vet inte hur man förbinder, så jag bryter förbindelsen"

But there what's litterally being said is: "I don't know how to connect, so I break the connection"... not quite the same poetic ring.

I think Daniel's translation is very good. But I - as a Dane - would say that it is not a frase people would use in Swedish/Danish. Or is it just me with a poor vocabulary?
And may I ask why you want to know? Going to Swenden and planning to use it as a pick-up-line? ;-)

No, this is so wrong:):) Not a pick-up-line for sure:)

Don't know if I can make it better though, but...

"kontakt" or "uppmärksamhet" would be a pretty good swedish word for it.

It would be something like: "Jag vet inte hur jag ska kunna fånga din uppmärksamhet, så jag ger upp" (för den här gången, jag ger upp- "I give up" - for the moment, that is to say. Somewhere I can hear, she will try again...

Okay - I see that maybe I wasn't so clear. I meant that it would bee a very strange line to use in Swedish. But maybe Valentine thought that it would bee a good line to tell someone. 'Cause it is a very good line in English - it is just so very bizarre in Swedish. I was just trying to warn her of using it as a cool line. And then I was curious - but maybe I sould just mind my own business....

honestly, it's my favorite bit of lyrics from the cardigans (also my favorite band). i was hoping to get a tattoo of it at some point but i didnt want it in english. strange since permanently inking something into your skin is something most people can see but i wouldnt want everyone to understand it... to keep it a little bit secret for myself. i thought that while the cardigans write their songs in english, it would be interesting to see the swedish translation! thanks for the help!
