Has anyone else realised how many people get confused with No Doubt & Cardigans songs?? I'm huge fans of both bands (more so Cardys of course), but it does annoy me when people get them confused, because I honestly cannot hear or see the connection or resemblance? A lot of people seem to think My Favourite Game is a No Doubt song, as with Lovefool. Vise verse with Don't Speak. Anyone else found this?

Nope. IMO, people tend to confuse The Cardigans with The Cranberries because of their names. But I've never heard that someone confused a Cardigans song with a No Doubt song.

musically it's impossible to confuse both. but they were all big in the early second half of nineties. especially in 1997! i listened to them a lot at that term...
btw, magnus doesn't like the cranberries. please don't say the name

I have run across this a couple of times, but not too much.
It's a little irritating. But I still meet people who think "Horse with No Name" is by Neil Young. So it doesn't surprises me...

The Cardigans were also responsible for "I'm A Bitch" [Meredith Brooks], if any random guy on an Irish street were to be believed.

And no matter how many "Cardigans" songs people seem to be able to recall [Lovefool; My Favourite Game; Erase/Rewind; Kiss Me; There She Goes; I'm A Bitch; Don't Speak; I Am I Feel] - people never attribute more than one of them to the Cardigans, so they're always considered a one-hit wonder here.

I'm starting to see why the label hasn't bothered doing anything here...

People who can't feel the difference between band's style it's funny...

It's like when you make people listening to Deep Purple and then Europe and they will almost totally not found a sound difference! It's like if their brains just codify electric guitar noises as "a rocky thing" :)

I mean.. "Kiss Me" is a pretty sweet song, but it's miles away from Cardigans style! It's more usa radio sound... Cardigans, instead, has that great dark north european sound... eh!

Well... In Italy there is a lot of people who can't feel any difference bewteen Paul Mc. Cartney singing "Michelle" in lovely british english.. and Avril Lavigne singing in canadamerican.
They say "oh, it's english!", and I'm always trying to make them understanding and feeling the difference...

As much as i did like No Doubt a bit, how can anyone mistake Nina's beautiful voice for anyone else's? Nobody has a voice like Nina.

I know some people confuse Nina with the singer from the Cranberries, plus the name. Also, when Sixpence was big with the Kiss Me video, some people seemed to confuse Nina with that singer as well.

The only people who could confuse the Cardigans with No Doubt are near-comatose, and can't be called music fans.

Gwen Stefani does have a nice voice, as does Hope Sandoval out of Mazzy Star. Nina has got the most beautiful voice ever though. I could listen to Nina just talking. Wonderful.

Not sure about Dolores Cranberry, i would have said that she had a voice of acquired taste. I used to like The Cranberries, but then i realised that they weren't that good in the end. Still think that 'Zombie' is a tune though.

Gwen Stefani has a pretty face (not a question here, huh ;) ) ,I like her voice,ok,but her "attitude" in a past few years..is really starting to annoy me.. (Ok,still not a question, huh?)
Cranberry's singer..ok,respect,but personally,her voice irritates me a bit(after listening few songs in a row)..
So..what was the question here anyway?
I don't see any similarity between all these women, and it looks like none of you either..
So,we can talk about these other singers,if you like, but why bother explaining why Nina doesn't sound like they do?
She simply doesn't.
Who doesn't see the difference..oh well.. Oh well. :)

I wasn't aware that the two sounded alike?

There are so many things that are different about the two bands that anyone who actually pays attention to music should know they are nothing alike.

Music should be judged by the music, not the faces.

I can't say the cranberries really do anything for me. I liked Zombie ok when it was out, as well as linger, and maybe a couple others. Just nothing there that really lasted for me or appeals. The singer married some guy from near where I live, and I think his cousin or somebody went to my high school.. hehe. small world.

And what do you think about Sheryl Crow? I think nina and sheryl has a very looked voices. I think above all in LGBD. Its more USA recording and it is more similar to the sound of Sheryl. What do you think about that? i have to say that i dont care Sheryl, im in love with the voice and the caracter of Nina.

Mmmmm, I don't know about that. I think Sheryl has a sweet voice, but that's it. And she did a good cover of Sweet Child of Mine.
But I don't think LGBD was too close to Sheryl's sound, at least not to the sound of what I've listened from her (Tuesday Night Music Club, Sheryl Crow, Wildflower).

Hello friends,

What you're discussing here is so familiar! I think the problem is that there are still so few ladies out there. The similarity between us and No Doubt I guess is that we are bands with ladies singing, trying to keep it being a band. When it turns into big business though, companies seem to think that you need to narrow the visual part down to one person.
Women who choose to do solo efforts all the way seem to be considered a different category, I don't understand why.
I'm a fan of No Doubt and (maybe more) Gwen Stefani. And I still think that being in a band is the best schooling you get these days, if you wanna do music.

I have never met Gwen or the Cranberries girl. But I've met millions of sweet guys and girls in bands. Check out my MySpace-site for A Camp, that's one way for me to hook up with people!!

Yours,
Nina

Do you run that A Camp MySpace site or is it run by a fan?
