I've been looking forward to the release of this for a long time now. The release has actually been pushed forward by about 6 months, so it surprised even me when I heard this was coming out so soon.
Previously, I would have said that she has a similar sound to the Long Gone Before Daylight album (particularly on 2000's Dogs), but that appears to have changed by now. I don't really know how to describe this album - except to say that it has a certain kinship with Run To Ruin mixed with elements of acoustic Belle & Sebastian and Coldplay (when the later actually has a decent song to work around), all tied together with a Mazzy Star-esque approach of not forcing the songs to peak the way they should, and instead finding other more interesting ways of doing so (usually involving a whole load of violins being played very delicately).
This woman is 2nd only to Cat Power (click on the little headphones item at the very top left of the page to hear some songs) in terms of active female solo artists - in my estimation.
