Scandinavian names (part 2)
I began to write on this topic at my previous thread “Scandinavian tales” (page 2). Now I want to continue this conversation. Well, I already wrote some of Norvegian names for men. This time I`m going on…
Plenty of their names consisted of two and more words. Besides that, many of them can be easily translated into English ;)
• Raud – Red, Orange
• Sigurd – Defended with the Win
• Snorry – Screaming, Crying
• Torgest – Tor`s guest
• Hrut – Sheep
• Eivind – Happy Wind
• Gerd – Guard
There`re some names from the book “Ancient world”…

All names in all languages have their special meaning and translation, not only Scandinavian and Norwegian in particular. It just may sound for you unusually because you are Slavs and in Eastern Europe you won't find people with such names, if they are not foreigners. In the same time our names can sound funny for the Norwegians.

Всё понятно, Аня, но я и не говорила, что скандинавские имена какие-то особенные или звучат как-то красиво и необычно. Как написал наш французский знакомый Лааран, исландская группа языков считается одной из самых бедных среди скандинавов ;)))

Speaking about their names, I want to add that all those names were created by Scandinavian people and they, of course, knew what it`d meant. Therefore, I guess their names could be not only funny as Anya wrote, but also strict and serious. I think it could have got concrete meaning from different circumstances. For example, from people`s habits, “profession” and many others…
