The Goncourt, France's biggest literary prize, has just been attributed to Jonathan Littell's Les Bienveillantes. I've only reached page 250 (out of 900) so will refrain from commenting for now, but a small detail buried at the end of a Libération article about Littell struck me:
Apparently, the American-born author, who's lived in France and wrote his novel directly in French, was turned down for French nationality twice.
This information was also published on yahoo.
I'd like to know the reason. Why was he refused the French nationality twice ?

That decision strikes me as ill-considered and embarrassing (I'd be curious to know on what grounds Littell's request was turned down), especially since I myself got dual French-American citizenship a few weeks ago. But of course it's only part of France's generally awkward, to put it politely, attitude toward immigration.
Just one point. Between this coward American (what means 'awkward' ?) and a muslim, I prefer a muslim. |

The title: More dangerous than muslims
Tell me honestly, is it become your core view that Muslims are dangerous people? People that you must avoid of?
Is it become a mainstream thought among European nowadays?
Or you just want to draw some attention by use such bias title? |

Since 5 days, others have written in this forum that muslims are dangerous. My title is bias, because it is an answer to these different comments.
People that you must avoid of?

Is it become a mainstream thought among European nowadays?
This is a different question.
The problem here is immigration. I think all immigrants are a problem today, in my own country.
Muslims more ? No. Muslims less (or they have a right to come, from our former colonies) ? No. Maybe they have a right to come, but the threat is the same to me. One more immigrant is one more immigrant. |

You don't get my point. You mentioned that Muslims are dangerous though there are something that more dangerous than Muslims, I asked you is that common for you/European to think us that way; that we/Muslims are dangerous.
You give me impresssion that Muslims are threat to you/European so Muslims are dangerous somehow somekinda beast that you must avoid of or kill instead be friend with....I hope my impression is wrong since in the end you prefer a dangerous Muslim though! |

Only 13 threads have received some comments since 5 days. Have you read these 13 threads ? The date is written at the top of each comment, you just need to search for (and read) the latest comments of these 13 threads.
