Let's try to explain how I see our french politicians.

I will choose Bertrand Delanoë, mayor of Paris.
Although I support many things he did and does inside Paris (for the management of the city itself).
I will choose him because newspapers are speaking about him today.

In October 2003, he gave the title "citoyen d'honneur" to Mumia Abu-Jamal.
This American person was a member of the Black Panther, he was accused of murdering a policeman, although the proofs are nearly void.

I understand that Delanoë wants to support him.
Unfortunately, he did it the very wrong way.
"citoyen d'honneur" is not a political title. Only very few people are "citoyen d'honneur" of Paris. Before Mumia Abu-Jamal, the previous one was Picasso, 30 years ago.
Picasso has been living in paris for many years, and gave some of his paintings to the country.

Mumia Abu-Jamal has no connection with Paris. He never could leave the USA, so he never visited this city.
Giving him this title is ridiculous.

People died here 210 years ago, 170 years ago, 150 ago, 130 years ago, each time they were fighting for political ideas. They decided to keep the title "citoyen d'honneur" with its original meaning. They always refused to change it for a political meaning.
Delanoë arrives in 2001, and he decides to change that. He has no respect for the deads of Paris.
I have no respect for the title "citoyen d'honneur" of Mumia Abu-Jamal and I spit on it.
If I decide to support Mumia Abu-Jamal, I will use another ways. And you probably will not know about it.
