Hi all

I know this is a bit cheeky so I apologise to anyone upset by me doing this, but we could do with some advice. We are a band from england who have a new song and we don't know if it's any good and could use some constructive criticism.

If you have 2 minutes to spare you can have a listen at www.overplay.com/curari and click on play next to the song "no for an answer". Your input is greatly appreciated as we've had some mixed views so far!!

I'm not going to say our band website here as I don't want you all thinking I'm just spamming the forum!

Thank you all
James

Hi James,
I've heard the song. I'm glad there still some young guys in britain that still be not shy about creating real melodies and rock and roll :)
You sound like a good band to me.

But! There's always a but!

1) I hope you're gonna record a slightly better session, speaking about quality. If you are from Leeds I can tell you a super nice place where you can go and don't spend a fortune and be really satisfied about the quality of the sound compared to the time/price spent. It's a studio in Warrington, it's called Frog studio and the guy who works there is really great, he'll make you sound good as you deserve to.
I recorded there with my last band and we were shocked about the quality of mix-sound-power we had (we were in three). I hope you'll think about that studio, even if approacching Warrington you will feel a sad depression watching around.. :P

2) I don't like the echo effect on the voice, saying "answer answer.." . It sound strange enough to keep me interested, maybe. But then, at a second listening, it sounds just kind of out of time.

3) About the image:
I'm not gonna be a bad guy or super critic. But..
I think having good crackin' songs (which is so rare today!!!) you should care more about your personal image as well. In what way? Well, my dream would be a band that we can't see really, a bit like Gorillaz but rocky, if you know what I mean!
I'm not saying "you guys look awful", don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that you should give a massive kick to all the "indie" crap that still going on and on and on on (even if dead years ago) in Britain. You've got the song (songS? Dunno about other tracks but this one sounds nice) to pretend to be "bigger" than others. So, why not, let's give a bit of mistery around your band, people will have to really think "wow, who's this band and this cute voice singing this honest rocky song?", maybe... without see you!
Erhm.. I can't explain really how does this idea works, but I've got it somewhere..

Ok, nothing else. And thank you for sharing the song! It has been good to hear it!

Taaa LuvS ^_^

hey thanks a lot for that

that's really good advice. I agree the mix isn't as good as it could be. I'll try to find that place you're talking about. we haven't spent much on recording yet so hopefully in the new year we'll be able to get that sorted.

The echo thing is a kind of deliberate out of time thing. I like it I think it's quite interesting, but as I wrote the song I'm biassed!

I also like what you're saying about image. I'd love to do a gorillaz kind of thing and you're right that would give us a certain mystique! the last thing I want is to look like every indie band out there at the moment. Having said that I think our singer is quite cute so I don't want to lose her from the image. We need to work on image though, you're right.

cheers for all that, it is mucho appreciated!

Hey!
Here is the website of that studio!
I really hope the guy who works in it still the same, he was truly good.

Good luck and, if you contact them.. say that the only warringtonian rock and roll band existed "Heathers" told you about their studio :D

Not really... The website is dead as the band :(

Well, I can kindly send you a cd, anyway! If you want, give me your address by private message and I'll try to send you our few recording sessions soon :)

That's a shame.

Well I'd love to hear your stuff, so I've just messaged you - let me know if it doesn't work!
