hey i just wanted to ask you guys what the song communication is all about. i'm using for a pointe dance in dance class and i really love the song. but i just feel like i cant really dance to it if i'm not imagining what its about. i think its about a girl trying to tell someone she loves him and he's confusing her. is that right?
learningtolove, 2005-10-24 21:15:09
Hey!

I don´t know for sure, but my take on that song is this:
child-parent communication problems. Or a song about our band even?
I don´t think it´s a regular love song but I can be so wrong. Only Nina knows!

Hello!
Watching the "I need some fine wine..." behind the scene's pictures, there is one with a lovely fruit composition.

I wanna just test if Cardigans knows who's the painter that use to paint such inventive subjects. It's not Van Gogh, of course... :)

So: the painter is called...?

Tell me the answer (and doing so, shows me your culture knowledge, hehe) and you will win me, singing in Roma's undergrounds "I need some fine wine..." (as I did yesterday, while waiting on platform) ...!

It's free advertising!! It's good for you! I hope no legal action will be taken...

Ciao!
Emiliano
Emilianino, 2005-10-27 12:40:41
ehh

Bob the builder? No?
I have no idea, but I am not the art freak in the band. I am sure Nina knows!

MagnusS, 2005-10-27 15:37:25
I was wondering how you feel when people tell you that your music has affected them and that you inspire them? [love the new alb by the way!) kevin :-)
vitaminclouds, 2005-10-18 20:36:08
Hey!

That´s sometimes hard to understand but then it´s just to remember the bands and artists that have meant a lot to us/myself. We´re always grateful and happy if people have the courage to tell us face to face, we´re not that dangerous you know! :-)

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 15:36:25
Hej!

when will Turkish fans meet the album? or maybe experince a new concert? :) i think you won't leave us all alone after rockncoke2003. that was a great concert.. and sadly listened the album over the internet (i couldnt wait). i hope you wont keep us waiting too long for a release in Turkey..
lecterhouse, 2005-10-27 10:50:58
hey!
We´re always up for another Istanbul trip!
And as you know, we in the band has nothing to do with the releases.
A Company called Universal music and entertainment is doing that.
(That goes for everyone who complains, WE ARE NOT DISTRIBUTING OUR ALBUMS FROM OUR BEDROOMS)
So I have no idea about a Turkish release... sorry.

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 12:14:56
Hi Magnus,

Thank you for replying with regard to influences etc. I wonder, if i hit Bflat five times then go , F! G! A! D! would i therefore be In The Round?! :) you say SonicYouth, hmmm, im leaning more towards the Pixies again! its a great bassline, one of the standout hooks on the album for me. I like that exchange between Bflat and Dm....Is Peter using slide on the guitar? Bridge is very nice too, B flat F Gm Dm ...thats a cool one. And guys, throughout the record you are not afraid to use those minor chords!

The middle of Holy Love is interesting , F C then a clever drop to Cminor , and Bflat, Magnus, who suggested this? the drop from C to Cminor , it works beautifully. Shit! you will think im looking for a job with the band! hahaha :)))))

Oh and Daughter, the 4 opening chords, i love that progression also, Cm Aflat Eflat Bflat ...it appears in one of my favourite songs, albeit in different key, dunno if u have ever heard it, The Crystal Ship, by the Doors, its there in the middle eight. And Magnus you suggested very well!!! i mean by adding the strings to it, that really makes it special.

Padraic
barbarossaaa, 2005-10-27 11:01:06
Hey!

I don´t think Peter is using slide on that one, but what do I know? ;-)
Yeah, it´s a nice track, a ladies favourite it seems! Maybe because it reminds me
of shopping in NYC´s SoHo? :-)

I have no idea of the C minor thing, probably Peter´s idea. He knows his chords...
Have you noticed that there´s a modulation at the end? After me and Bengt quit playing?

Of course I know Crystal ship! Just haven´t thought about it.

Listen to Dusty´ "yesterday when I was young and hear how the strings take over her vocal melody at the last chorus and hand it back over to her for the final lines.
That´s where I got the idea. And her song is much better than ours I think)

MagnusS, 2005-10-27 12:12:15
Is there a possibility to combine your tour with Jenny Wilson or/and Blood Music as your support? I saw her live and it was amazing and it would fit very well together I think. Just an idea of my all-time-favourite concert...otherwise I will have to follow each band on its own. Well, no problem about that;-)
Laika-the-1st, 2005-10-27 10:49:55
Hey Astrid!

I am sure that Nina would like to have Jenny onboard a tour, they´re old friends.
We havve no clue whom we will bring on tour yet, it´s a financial backside to a support band aswell, you know tourbuses are expensive...

I bought carl-Jonas Blood music album last week, real nice stuff!
You´ve become a conniesseur (bad spelling) of Swede indie! :-)

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 12:07:20
hi nina ( i guess it´s your job to answer all those questions...no one else answered yet... but ok, i´m fine with that :)
first of all, NICE album! nicenicenice...it keeps spinning in my cdplayer since i´ve bought it and it still gets better. and the artwork, the cover, the pictures and all that stuff is great...love it.
i know you´re still planning the tour, so i think it´s worth a try:
pleeeeeeeeease! just one gig in southern germany, somewhere like munich or stuttgart - no, not stuttgart...ehm, better frankfurt or mannheim? i would love to see you playing somewhere around! i just saw you guys once playing at rock am ring festival and it was so short! like 30 minutes? i don´t remember...too short and too big. and since then i have never had the chance to see you but i keep collecting your music, i´ll never stop listening to it, since i saw the >rise and shine< video running on mtv like a thousand years ago! that was when i fell in love with the cardigans...

i love your voice, nina..

bye and goodnight.

flo
vlo, 2005-10-23 04:13:35
Hey!

The Rock am Ring show was a full show, you must have been drunk or something! :-) I am sure we´ll get to München next year, no worries!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:52:07
Peter or Magnus,

I know that you guys played heavy metal for a while in the early 90s. What style of heavy metal were you playing? Was it glam, power, doom, death, black, thrash, or something completely different? Do either of you like any heavy music today, or is that a thing of the past?
lemmy999, 2005-10-18 13:00:59
Hey!

It´s longtime misunderstanding that Peter and I played heavymetal together.
We never did, but met because we both left that field. Lazy journalism that still sticks
to us after 10 years... I think Peter played in a regular heavy band, my band was... I have idea, nothing I guess. ;-)

Peter is still a metal head, I prefer old stuff like Sabbath and the occasional Motorhead and AC/DC tune. I´m getting old you know!

MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:46:30
Hi Cardigans,
I want to pay to You compliments for Your last album, Your music is always better and better!!! I thank You for all the happy mood that Your music has given to me in this year since Gran Turismo!
A question. I've all the albums of You, but I haven't many singles: I can find them somewhere or they are all out of print?
When a concert in Rome? Here, there are many fans of You; We are waiting for You!!!
A friendly greeting

Maurizio,
ROME

P.S.: Nina, I love your voice, do not change it!!!
orsonet, 2005-10-23 19:31:40
Hey!

I have never been to Rome! A big shame if you ask me!!!
Hope we can have some success in Italy, that would be great.
Still it´s a long ass ride from Sweden, but maybe when we´re swinging by Switzerland next time. Just turn left and through some tunnels right? ;-)

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:41:34
Hello The Cardigans.

I want to congratulate You for your last album, I bought it this weekend, and I am still listening to it.

Have to listen to it many times, until I know all the songs , but "Good Morning Joan" , "In The Round", "Don't blame your daughter" are already my favorites.
Thank You for the good music ;o).

Hope you will come to Luxembourg soon??? It's a small country, but We really love you here, and perhaps a concert worth??? :O)

Wish You all the best.
Pédro from Luxembourg.
DoubleExpresso, 2005-10-23 16:59:00
Luxembourg was real nice last time we played there, the concert owner and his wife were so nice to us. And the audience was great so we´d like to come back!
And my sister´s sister-in law lives there so I can hang out with her!
Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:38:37
Fabulous album - but I'm not surprised at all :o) My question isn't very bright, sorry...

Magnus -
I know you said you don't have any plans for new Righteous Boy stuff but I'd like to know if you still re-visit the RB music you did record....do you ever play anywhere, etc... ?
Are you really starting a new band? I'll put on my Italian thinking cap and try to come up with some good Latin names for you. :)

I will have more chocolate waiting for you all when you eventually come back to Seattle - maybe you guys will bring some chocolate to me as well? ;-)

Chocolately,
Tina

P.S. THANK YOU for all your kindness last year - it really pulled me through the rest of the year in a big way. I still can't believe I made it down to San Fran to see you guys, even right after losing my dad - I think I was in serious shock then - anyway music really is therapy!
TinaSeattle, 2005-10-27 00:01:39
You´re welcome Tina, you´re such a old time friend so we wanna help you out.
I don´t do any gigs with RB anymore, in fact I only performed live 3 times here in Malmö. Swedish choco is good and milky, we´ll see , it might melt on the way to the Northwest...

magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:36:38
so.....
....
...
someone asked what is gran turismo? you said a play station game.

so my question is... why did you pick a name of a game to name your album? did youplay it too often during the recording? was it some kind of publicity stunt of something ( you never know these days).. or is it just because it sounds nice?

x.

daniel.
elastican, 2005-10-27 03:26:44
Yeah we played quite often during the recordings. Bengt and Lasse were stuck with
Resident Evil all the time though. Don´t think that would have made such a good name for the album though...

MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:34:40

We don´t know either.

magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:30:57
This question is mostly for Nina;

Do you find it difficult to make the lyrics fit the melody? For example, if you have a line that you want to have in a song, but there's too many (or few) words for it to fit the length of that particular part of the song. Do you then have to rewrite the lyrics, or do you "mould" the melody after the lyrics as well?

The reason why I ask this is that I found it very difficult to fit in all the words to Godspell when I heard the instrumental version, and I couldn't get it to "flow". But when you hear the complete version on the album it sounds so perfect together.

/erica
Erica_S, 2005-10-17 22:15:59
Hey Erica!

This is what Nina is soo damn good at, the flow. It makes me envious for sure.
Peter and Nina are always debating this, in a very gentle way of course.
Peter for sure has his fixed idea on the melody and then Nina might add
or sculpture a phrase here and there. It´s good to get some variaations on the
phrasing in a verse and so on.

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:30:16
PANIC!! If there will be a Greatest Hits coming out if/when Nina has a child, does that result in the end of the band producing new material!?!? And if she IS going to have one, how long in the future do you think that'll be?

Please put our minds at rest!!!

ADAM

P.S. Really appreciate you spending your time replying to us! We must be detrimental on your social lives!
internazionale, 2005-10-26 17:07:52
Hey!

My answer was just guessing , you know recordlabels want to keep the wheels spinning all the time. And as you could figure out, I have no idea when/if Nina wants a child, how could I ?

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:26:21
Hi!Quick question,I asked a question like this, but not quite this precise question:Will there be pics on the website from the irish record signing?
And I hope you all are having fun with my leprechaun!LOL
Kai(a.k.a-keith)
kaihayden, 2005-10-26 18:17:29
Hey!

Don´t think we took any pictures so you got to rely on the people who went there
to get albums signed. I am sure someone brought their camera?

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:23:46
Hello. A friend just played me yr most recent cd and it's really good. Almost cried. I have a quesion about Nathan Larsen if I may. Does he have an official site or e-mail address? I'm only asking because I heard he was looking for Canadian musicians to play music with in the vien of Arcade Fire. I live in Toronto and Montreal and I sort of grew up with Shudder to Think's music and think that they got light years better when he joined the band. Pony Express Record is still mind boggling to me, especially the fact that it was on a major label. Weird!! Anyhow I am a capable multi instrumentalist (drums, bass, kbrd)with a style all my own, (just like Nathan has a style all his own.)and basically working with Nathan would be a dream come true for me. A long distance collaboration is totally pheasable. I realize this is a total shot in the dark but what have I got to lose? All I do is 4-track my ideas for about 3 different projects and hopelessly look for people to play with that don't blow out a pig's asshole, but to no avail. You could just e-mail me privately (i.e. dont post yr reply) to let me know if I'm totally out of line or if he has an e-mail address I can harrass him at. Rad.
divadksin, 2005-10-26 18:32:10
Hey!

Nathan has a website of his own! www.nathanlarson.com Simple as that!

MagnusS, 2005-10-27 10:22:27

bandet dog nog nån gång i Jönköping.. ;-) Vi var för lata för att repa helt enkelt!

Antar att du blir en sämre/mer frustrerad pappa om du försakar ditt skapande
för länge , så du får nog hitta tillfällen att gå ner i skapar grottan då o då?

Lycka till

Magnus

I was screwed over by my professor and had to take finals in the middle of your concert in Dallas last year, and was only able to make it there for the last three songs. It was the best 3 songs I've ever heard live, and I hope to god next year you come through Dallas. Through hell or high water, I'll be there early!

Please tell me you'll come back through Texas again?

An exam or something...?

We hope to come back to texas again, it´s warmer there than here for sure.
