hey there band members!

I have a few questions:

1. what is the meaning of the name "Gran Turismo"?
2. guess you have no idea when the new album's gonna come out in Israel, so I need some advices how to convince my dad to buy it for me through the interner.
3. are you guys planning to stop by here in your next tour? Israel holds a lot of fans waiting for you to come.
and last one for now:
4. if you guys weren't the Cardigans, what would any one of you would've been?

please please answer it's like the zillion time i've benn trying to send this.... though I know you guys get many questions

(btw, ow that you've the "ask the band" section, is i t easier or are there much more to answer?)

thanx!

Gran Turismo is the name of a Playstation game! We asked for permission first, promise!
Tell your dad that you really really want it and come up with something you can help him with in exchange for the favour! And send our wishes to him!
No tour plans at all, but you Israelis keep on telling us we should come and play there. Guess our concert agents will have to think about it.
I studied 4 years of childcare so I might have worked on a kindergarten still.
Have no idea what the other guys would have become.

Hi,

Long time listener, first time asker - you've probably been pestered with this a lot, but when the dickens are you going to play a gig in Ireland? It would be nice to have you over.
AdamHyland, 2005-10-26 13:19:39
Hey!

All touring will be next year, everyone asks us (which is nice) but I am tired writing it over and over... ;-) We hope to come to Dublin for sure!

MagnusS, 2005-10-26 16:37:39
Hey, Magnus! Sam from Washington, DC here. Saw you on the last night of your tour with Liz Phair at the 9:30 Club. You all were on fire!

Glad to hear that you'll be touring the US again soon---but when is SEG coming out stateside?!

Cheers,

Sam

P.S. Purchased Righteous Boy the other day and finding it to be fabulous---any plans for another RB release in the future?
samsson, 2005-10-26 16:03:20
Hey Sam!

Yeah, that show at the 9:30 club was cool! Last show and all if I remember it well!
We have no US label at the moment and no US tour at the moment, we´ll wait til next year with all touring.

I got no plans for another RB album but I just started a new band, we´re gonna mix garage rock with latin and afro and stuff. And sing in spanish, no not me but two ladyfriends of mine. Any suggestions for a name?

Hey !

My norwegian sucks, but I can totally understand what you´re writing!
But why norwegian when there´s swedish? ;-)

We will come play Austria next year for sure, hopefully Budapest aswell.
We played Trondheim two years ago, it was cold... ;-)

MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:30:54
Nina, I just wanted to say that you made the bonus DVD (which comes with SEG) so hilarious with your presentation on microphones. Alot of which you was saying made me laugh soo much! "Is that Laban the Sheep?" Haha! Very Random
Also when you had the headphones on and you started talking very loudly.
Admit it, you didn't know what you was talking half the time really did you?!
Did you all have to rehearse your presentations?
xRiotPixiex, 2005-10-24 13:03:02
Hey!

As the director of that part of the DVD, I must say I am deeply impressed with Nina´s and Bengt´s presentations! By the way, I have no idea who Laban the sheep is.... :-)
All clinics are totally ad-lib, I just kept the camera rolling.

Glad you liked it, it was real fun to make that film

MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:27:54
Hello

Who decides what cities and what venues you guys play when touring? Is it you or the record company, someone you employ specifically for that job, or just random hobos picked off the street :-)?

Thanks

Excellent record

Yours

Sam
DeanMoriarty, 2005-10-24 14:20:29
Hey!

Yes, we ask the hobo on the streetcorner to book our tours!
No actually, we got concert promotors to do that and it all comes together like this.
General success/recordsales=bigger venues= a decent fee=a good chance for us to make a break even= a cardigans show= happy cardigans fans!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:25:24
My question is for Bengt, The double kick drum thing..how does it work?? is there a mic inside? If so where?? Are there skins on the inside or just at either end of the double drum?? It's weird but very nice sounding!
I really like the new album!!!! It was hard to obtain here in Canada, but worth the struggle.
Thanks
nelg, 2005-10-24 16:06:20
Hey!

The double bassdrum is an old invention of Tore, the producer. He uses that to be able to seperate the front and kick mics! And the drum sound gets deeper for sure.
he even made a carpenter make a whole drumkit that way, that bassdrum is at least 4 feet tall... I am not sure about if there´s a skin on the inside, quite possibly since Tore´s the mad professor in the studio!

MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:22:34
Hey my favourite game, oops band ;)
how are you guys doing?
my question is simple. is there any possibility of touring around Brazil next year? specially where I live, Rio de Janeiro????
the Cardigans have a lot of fans around here. i mean, A LOT. you are my favourite band of all time........... i gotta see you in a concert. ;)))))))
anyway, i wish you luck in the promotion of the new album SEG which is FANTASTIC even if you don´t come here =/.
lots of love and lots of music
XD~~°
Lucas Waltenberg

ps: sorry for any possible mistakes in my writting..........
l_waltenberg, 2005-10-26 10:14:03
Hey Lukas!

We would all totally totally love to come to Rio and play!!!
Problem is, it´s a bit far from Sweden. If we get indications that Brazil is waiting for us, we will come and play. South America is the only place we haven´t been to and it´s a shame! I think that the people of Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile would like a visit too!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:19:12
Hello Band ;-)

Now time for a harder question:

What the hell was "NervewreckingacrobaticbackwardsbAnd" - a tag on your interim website (before SEG website) and why that tag was there? I've heard this sequence again (deja vu?;-) on And Then You Kissed Me II - but in different (according to booklet)! Now it's "nerve-wrecking acrobatic backwards-bEnd".

I'm really into this story now, so waiting for some explanations :)

xoxo,
Lukasz
liu, 2005-10-24 17:39:50
Hey!

Yeah, when I heard Nina sing that line, I though she said ...band and then I thought it would be a great but impossible album title. To me, it means that we sometimes get on eachothers nerves, do things our own ways which sometimes might not be the commercially best in the short run, but somehow always seem to get through the bad times and come back with force! And that´s why we are still alive and well after 13 years together!

Magnus ( made that interim tag just to confuse all of you! :-)
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:16:40
So,have you ever think that you got many super fans in China, and will your new album be released in China?
As I remembered, the album<GT> was released in China 6 or 7 years ago.
Thanks a lot.
Lazyman, 2005-10-25 09:14:29
Hey!

No idea actually. Have we got fans there too? :-)

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:12:50
Hey Peter or Lasse,

Where did you guys get that awesome Travis Bean Axe?

I live in NYC... know of any online bean dealers/online groups that I could find to procure one?

Where did you get yours?

-Adam
orlando12, 2005-10-24 17:47:12
Hey Adam!

I don´t know where Lasse got his Travis bean, but you should really check
www.gbase.com That´s a Trans US site where you can search all kinds of instruments! Just type Travis Bean and see if anyone has got one.
I found my 66 fender p bass there, and they shipped it to me. (after I payed them of course ;-)

Happy hunting!

Hi the band.
Just to say I really love the new album (like the last one "long gone..."), and
Peter, can you give me the Tab of "Little blck cloud" PLEASE? I really love the riff at the beginning!
Thank you and thank you to do so great music.
Jerome; a french fan
jerome, 2005-10-24 18:29:38
Hey!

Peter has no time to write tabs,he has got a family and all you know! But I am sure that someone else here at the Forum can help you, plenty of people have contribued with guitar tabs before. I myself can´t read or write music...

MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:08:53
Hey Cardies!

Longtime fan, and that's only been reinforced by the new album (SEG is fantastic);

My question is this:

What is it like to play a song you haven seen from its genesis in front of thousands of people? Is it as great as it seems? Has it gotten less emotionally impactful over the years, more, or has it always been just as good everytime you step out on stage? Most of us will never get a chance to do what you guys get to do somewhat annually (performing concerts), so fill a working stiff in on what it's like to be a rockstar for a living, will ya?

Cheers,
Luke G.
LJGroh, 2005-10-24 19:17:38
Hey!

Well for me, the most fun is to play the songs live, maybe not for the thousand time but you know what I mean. Maybe Peter has a different feeling since he invents the songs? The studiowork can be super frustrating and slow, even when you make progress. The coolest thing is to see people sing along to the songs, maybe with lighters in the air? Cliché but very nice!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 10:05:25
hey their nina, i've been a fan since 1997 now, i like the new album, i hope godspell is the next single. will their be a new dvd released at any time in the near future? either a videos collection or live concert? love del xxx
del25, 2005-10-25 19:49:42
Hey!

Godspell will not be the next single, to my surprise actually.
A DVD collection will probably come when we release a Best of... sometime in the future. A live dvd would be cool, but nothing´s planned there either.

I don´t think we´ll tour with them, we got plenty of nice Swedish bands to choose from!

Härlig känsla i varje fall!
När man lyssnar till "And then you kissed me II" får man ju rysningar och en liten tår i ögat.

åtminstone vad gäller texten till Kissed me, både 1 & 2. So no worries man! :-)

PLEASE TOUR THE UK SOON - WE ARE DESPERATE. I'VE ALWAYS LISTENED TO YOU GUYS BUT SINCE NINA'S SOLO ALBUM WE REALLY GOT INTO THE LYRICS - SO BLEAK! LONG GONE...WAS GREAT TOO AND NOW SEG IS JUST AS COOL. WOULD YOU PLAY SOME "A CAMP" STUFF IN THE CARDIGANS SHOWS? JUST FREQUENT FLYER OR SONG FOR THE LEFTOVERS WOULD DO! ITS MY FAVOURITE ALBUM OF ALL TIME. EVEN MY KIDS LOVE THE SAD SONGS ON LONG GONE......
WHEN ARE YOU GONNA TOUR THE UK?
GRAHAM, 2005-10-24 22:15:56
Hey!

Nina doesn´t want to play the A Camp songs with us, though we discussed it before the last tour. Next tour will be in feb/march !

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 09:53:16
Hi!

I play bas in a band called Silor & I. Despite my choice of instrument I try to play a serious creative roll in the band and to our music. Mostly however, this has been focused on trying to make our leedguitarist to play lines similar to the "guitarsolo" in the end of you`re the storm.
This has almost reached the limit of obsession.
Comments like "spela så att det låter som en stor jävla kyrkklocka" has been thrown against him.
For me and my friends sake, how do you achive quite a sound?
Mickee, 2005-10-24 23:23:51
Hej!

Peter got that sound by a detuner plug in, maybe on his Line6 amp so I understand that your guitarplayer has trouble to make it on his own. Maybe try with an Octavider pedal? Bassplayers should have a big influence on the music, don´t let the guitarist and singer decide it all, you know better! :-)

Good luck my friend!

mganus
MagnusS, 2005-10-26 09:50:05
Hey Magnus,

Im back :))) its very interesting reading your replies, and i think it is very nice of you to take the trouble to reply to us freaks! lol Firstly, i think the new Album is Fantastic, seriously...if it was a pile of shit i would say! but no, it is Fucking Terrific....you guys have the best female singer since, well since Debbie Harry! :))) and as for you dear Magnus, you are the Tallest Bass Player since , well since Nirvana were around! ;)

Ok , im interested in your influences, i have my own ideas on that i was just wondering if i am close or not, as i said previously i think , Losing A Friend is very Beatles...that dropping Chord Change in the middle is very Sixties, i love it. Godspell , Pixies Influence? Give Me Your Eyes, Blondie??? am i close?! lol and strangely Little Black Cloud , the opening of it reminds of The Smashing Pumpkins , Tonite Tonite....please correct me if im wrong! In my opinion two definate contenders for single release should be, Good Morning Joan, and Dont Blame Your Daughter (Diamonds) the last named is such a beautiful song....and i love the Lyric on it, Nina is very Clever girl!

So , hope you can tell me more about the influences for these songs.

Padraic
barbarossaaa, 2005-10-24 23:48:29
Hey!

You´re right on target when you mention these influences, at least the way I feel.
Don´t know if Petter agrees though. Losing a friend was at first called " the song with the chorus that never ends" Like a native american tribe name... ;-)
You´re the first who mentions Tonite tonite, to me that was real obvious!
Daughter has a string part which I talked the others into, hence Dusty Springfields
"yesterday when I was young" Overload was inspired by the movie Blue Velvet and of course Roy Orbison´s ballads.
In the round is Sonic Youth with the guitarboxes lost in the luggage reclaim at La Guardia airport...
Teardrop is so much Soundtrack of our lives but that´s ok cause they´re so good friends of ours! :-)

Hi Cardigans,

I got the new album in the post this morning and I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I watched the DVD and smiled a lot while I had breakfast. The way you talk about falling out with Tore while recording Long Gone Before Daylight makes me wonder if you view that album with some regret? I hope not. LGBD is so warm-sounding, and the songs so rich, it's one of my all-time favourite late-night albums - you can concentrate on it more when it's dark. I hope you haven't closed off that route forever. Anyway, really looking forward to listening to the new album tonight... :-)

GuyP
GuyP, 2005-10-25 15:49:19
Hey!

No we all love LGBD and it had to be made in that way. Now, some years afterwards we can see how we "destroyed" the commercial potential in the album, at least the singles but that´s the way it had to be. Tore´s not so keen on it, but that´s a different story. I think 03:45 is my night time fave!
