So, will you be touring the US again? When?
Where can vintage Cardigans t-shirts be found?
And...has Black Sabbath ever told you what they think of your covers?

No idea of touring. Vintage cardigans shirts can be found in our rehearsal space somewhere.... We might have some for sale!

yes, we´ve met both Ozzy and Tony Iommi and they really liked our covers.
pretty amazing to have met those legends!

Keep up the good work

Wow, Mags! I cannot believe you answered my question so quickly, I was convinced I'd have to wait a couple of months to see the answer. Thank you, very much.
It is a shame Universal is not thinking of doing a compilation of the videos. Hehe, it is a tough business being a fan of the Cardigans, we have to hunt down the CDs and DVDs (let alone posters).
I was wondering if I could ask you something about the drumset you guys used for LGBD. You wouldn't happen to know what the model was, would you?

Thank you again, and greetings from Argentina!

Hola!

I have no idea, Bengt has 14 drumkits.... But I think it was a mix of them, probably old Gretsch or Ludwig...

Take care

Hej!
About 10 years ago I first were on your homepage. I just started to write a novel about a fictive band that time and just wanted to see how life, music biographies and fans are like of "real" bands I liked and who inspired me. The more I read in your forum the more I became myself a real The Cardigans fan for some years (and still enjoy your music although I am currently not writing in the forum anymore).

Whatever, I have some questions about Japan, where you had your first big success. There are some different pop bands I always liked who were very popular there before they were successful in there own (european or northern american) countries. Do you know the reason about it? How did they first heard about you as example at all?
And then when you toured there, how was the feeling for you as a young european band when you got there the first time? In the country and on stage? What is the difference between a concert in Sweden/Germany/England compared to a concert in Japan?

Sorry, for the long post, I hope you will comment it though...
Ha det så bra!

Hej kathi!

Well I don´t really know how it all started, but Japanese Polygram picked up our first album Emmerdale back in 94 and when we released the econd LIFE, they were on the roll almost from the beginning. Guess we fitted in some kinda role at that time.
The LIFE album sold a lot of copies there, I think half a million so obviously we reached out far broader than the regular indiecrowd. It was real weird to be there, it is even nowadays! ;-) But human beings manage to work in strange environments and it somewhat became normal to us. To live normal early 20´s lives here at home and then go over there to be superstars with screaming people after us. We did work in Europe and a little in US at the same time, but Japan was first for sure. Except Sweden of course.

The shows are quite different, first of all, we´ve always played at 20.00 at the very latest. No people are drunk and they´re very.... observant. Noone´s screaming for more than 4 seconds after each song. Then it´s VERY silent... That was utterly scary the first time.

So all in all, I feel blessed to have been there many times, but it´s a strange place.

Take care

magnus!
what a strong name , sounds like magnum ha, i began with my season of loving a band, and the cardigans are back! (because you guys have been already in one of those seasons before) i was listening to losers and i decided to visit your website, pretty cool, good work with the ASK THE BAND SECTION, you have like 170 pages of pure dedication dedicated to the fans ha, which i immensely appreciate. I visited stockhom like a month ago and i saw that an abba museum will be opened, my first thought was: why the cardigans didnt get their museum first taking in count they are 10 times cooler than BABBA? i guess there are some enigmas we will never figured out. I hope you someday come to mexico city, by the way , i live there. i can teach you some spanish bad words, words with a meaning that you never imagined, haha . cool slangs here.

congratuations for being in an awesome band, OVER AND OUT

p.s: how tall are you? i see that you always tower all the band members
sulser, 2009-07-03 04:43:38
Hola!

I am 196 so yes, I tower all the small members of this band. Peter is decent size, the others... ;-)

ABBA is a worldwide phenomena, we´re not so it´s ok. Don´t think we´ll end up on a museum... ;-)

Thanks for your praise on me working on this site, it means a lot!

Take care

Hej!
Det jag associerar med er främst är den här underbara videon någon gjort om HC Andersens Den lilla sjöjungfrun, fast i sims, med er låt You're the storm som soundtrack:

http://www.archive.org/details...tions_45

Jag undrar lite över A camp också, om det är Nina på egen hand? Såg också att hon kommer spela på Tivolirock, och jag kommer dit så hade varit kul attse henne :) Och undrar, gillar hon att rita?

Hi there, I just wanted to say that I'm really appreciative that a member of the band is taking the time out to answer questions from fans. I've never joined a fansite before, but I wanted to let you know that the first album I ever got (it was a present from my sister) was, "Gran Turismo", by you guys. I loved the released singles like Erase/Rewind and My Favourite Game (especially because you spelt "favourite" in the title, the British way ;) ) but I never truly enjoyed this album until I hit my late teens and early 20's... It's been produced beautifully. I got the impression that unlike many other bands, The Cardigans were about the music, not just selling records. I also enjoy Lovefool, but have heard that you guys weren't huge fans of this song, due to being made to play it for people who weren't really interested* in what you guys were about on a broader scale (*drunk spring breakers). Your music is timeless, elegant and practically perfect. Being a design student at University, I like to think of it as a piece of good design. Also, just a bit of fun trivia, did you know that your Gran Turismo CD is featured in an IKEA induction video? I worked there for two years prior to studying at University. I know you're tired about people asking about tour dates, but even if it's for a bit of extra cash, do some more gigs! WE LOVE YOU!

Hej Chris!
Welcome to our site, even though it isn´t as active as it used to be.
Given that you dig GT, I think you should our fellowcountrymen ( lady) Fever Ray a listen. The singer Karin is more known as the singer of The Knife. Best album out of Sweden this year! Along with Jenny Wilson of course! The ladies rule our country!

Hej!

i am a huge fan from hong kong! I love your song 'war'
i found the lyrics very intriguing, but did not fully understand it
can you explain what the lyrics mean and what you wanted to express through the lyrics?

Hmm I don´t know really. I think Nina used the old war metaphor to explain a love affair again... ;-)

I have been away from the forum for quite a while, but came back today to see you are STILL doing a great job of keeping up with it.

I am going to see A Camp this Saturday in Denver ( Looking forward to the show, last saw The Cardigans in NYC for a couple of show a few years back in support of LGBD I believe)

My question is : Do you have any kind of firm numbers on the number of albums LGBD and SEG sold in the US? I know that in particular I had to buy an import of LGBD because of the release date in the US was at least 1 year coming. I know that you have stated that the sales for these albums were not "good", but I am curious at what kind of sales they have done. Sorry for the long post, but alot to catch up with.
akl13red, 2009-06-02 14:34:00
Hi!

I have absolutely no idea how many copies we sold in the US, but not much.
But that´s ok, I like staying at my summerhouse a lot more than doing meet and greets and interviews for people who really don´t care! ;-)

Take care

MagnusS, 2009-06-24 20:40:03
Hi Mags
regarding the LGBD eBay posting, yes i realize it's not the band's wish that they sell so high, but at least could you perhaps nudge the record label to repress your albums in vinyl?
yonan32, 2009-06-09 04:39:37
I think it´s too late. Bigger chance for a small indie label to buy the vinyl rights for it.
But keep an ebat search on for it, it might pop up again!

Im stocked at your PERFECT spanish and just wanted to share my thoguhts :D

Also, know that you're my fav. part of the band, YES YOU ARE! So quit saying that you're not popular. If I saw you walking in the streets of my hometown I'd faint, yes, I would faint and then maybe I'd cry or something like that lol

You're great Mags, super duper nice to every1 and well, that's all, I just had to say it out loud.

Hello,

I'm just curious to know if you guys ever use click tracks when recording your albums. Also, do you record live or track by track?

I would find any insight into your recording techniques to be helpful and interesting.

Thanks,
Joe
kezner32, 2009-06-11 08:19:24
Hi!

Hmm, I am not sure. Normally we work on the song and then play it over and over until we´vd found the right tempo. Then we take it from there on, usually after a good nights sleep. Then we keep the best drumparts and slice them to one take. Then it´s my turn to embarress myself on the bass... ;-)

But we have done some live takes, Slow from the SEG sessions is one. 03:45 from LGBD is another. I am sure there are more, but perhaps not with the full band at the same time? or we´ve just kept some instruments...

Take care

Mags!

I can't believe the Red Wings lost, and with all those Swedes in the lineup too! SHOCK & HORROR. All the best Game 7 players were from Quebec, a place where they really know & love they're hockey. I'm sure your not too heartbroken. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the playoffs or finals if you watched any of it.

Love
John

P.S. I missed A Camp due to my crummy job please tell Nina I still love her since I didn't get to say it in Persson. HA HA. I would never miss Cardigans though.
Johncarss, 2009-06-13 16:35:48
Hi

I missed most of the play offs, haven´t got cable in my summerhouse...
But of course I supported red Wings due to all them Swedes. But I am not that
heartbroken, you can´t win them all....

Mags
MagnusS, 2009-06-24 20:33:18
Hi you guys!
I really do missing the "Cardigans". Is there a chance that the band comes together in the originally formation? Cardigans were definetely more creative than "A Camp" somehow! I tried to get accustomed to "A Camp" but without any success. I even went to a concert of A Camp in Hamburg in order to to make a critical study of that music. but again: No success that i prefer A camp more than Cardigans :-)
So please do me a favor and million other people as well: Create a new CD and play live again!
By the way: I used to kiss a girl the first time to "Kiss me" (of course)..and since 2 years she is my wife and we have one daughter! THIS is the outcome, when listining to cardigans music ;-))

greetings Nic

Mags
MagnusS, 2009-06-01 21:49:58
Hi folks... Hello Mags
Im from rio de janeiro, BRazil. In Rio, there are several bands that got influence of Cardigans sound. They really love it. Since Emmerdale. I´d like to know your musical influences - especially Nina´s - and know about your composition process. Who make the harmonies, lyrics... These bands that i´d talked before listen to Creation sounds, 4AD records, vocal jazz music, bossa nova of the 50´s and other stuffs - My Bloody Valentine, Belly, Cocteau Twins - but i didnt see these elements in Cardigans music. You know some of these bands? If yes, they are part of Cardigans wisdom?

Cheers from Brazil

P.S - Do you know brazilian music?
TeddyBoy, 2009-05-27 16:45:47
Hi!

Well Peter has always made all melodies, music and vocal melodies. Then Nina or I make the lyrics, that´s been the case since the start. Peter and I met back in 1990 and we loved bands like Ride and My bloody valentine. Then of course some 4AD bands like red house painters. Nina and I really loved Cocteau twins aswell and she was into Throwing muses and Lisa Germano when we made those first two albums. So you´re not that far away. At the same time, Peter studied musical theory and some jazz in school. So that plus the vintage feel of Tambourine studios plus 90´s indie equals us!

Take care

Hey Magnus. This question may be one that has been answered before, but I'm trying to figure out what that 3 pickup hollow body guitar is in the Lovefool video.

It's been bugging me for years. Hofner, Rickenbacker, Gretsch or some other company I don't know about?

Thanks!
