Gran Turismo is an amazing album. I'm fortunate enough to have had someone refer the album to me. I feel blessed because I would not have discovered how amazing Higher/Marvel Hill/Paralyzed/Do You Believe. The whole album is a hidden treasure. I was only familiar with Lovefool/Erase and Rewind and My Favoroute Game.

Can you tell me any specifics on Higher? What it meant to Nina or to any of the band members? I feel sometimes there's a religious connotation to the song. Is this about a painful break-up or just a friendship that became more or hoping to have more?

Absolutely crazy about the intro song (Paralyzed) the whistling at the beginning is all you hear then the killer beat/drums/Nina's angelic voice. Gives me chills everytime I hear it.

Thank you for your time.

hej!

I think Nina wrote that lyric with our former guitarplayer Mattias in mind. He was with us the first year of the band and drowned in 97. So I think it was made for him.

Hello Mags, okay? I am Brazilian and I do not know if my English will be very good, but the only thing I want to say is that you are the best band I ever heard. I knew the music of you in the game Gran Turismo 2, and since that time have not stopped listening to you more. I hope that once again make a even here in Brazil, because I dare to say that the story of you I took a very dark place where I found my life. Thank you! Maicon.

hej mags!!!

i was wondering about some tracks of SEG, and how they sounds more rock'n'roll than the records of the others albuns. is there a special reason for it or it happened naturaly with the evolution process of the band?
for exemple, to me, litening to a SEG track and then listening to a LIFE track, sounds like two diferents bands.

well, i love cardies since Gran Turismo and i love many tracks before it...like lovefool, been it ...

i miss you band, i hope you all come up soon... thanks for answers!

yeah it´s been a fun ride! And we´ve always grown tired of our previous sound, so that´s why we´ve changed so many times. We´ve alwys relied on Nina´s voice and Peter´s songwriting so we´ve been able to switch costumes for the songs.

Hej Mags

You should put an official ban on people saying the last album is not as good as Long Gone Before Daylight. I have news for these people, neither are 99% of the albums made by anyone on earth during the last 15 years or so.

Magnus,

Thanks for answering my question the other day (about those old vinyl '93 bootlegs. I've asked the question on the Forum as well, but with no success. I keep my fingers crossed). The fact that you still personally answer questions in the ask-the-band-section of this site is just... very very nice. You must have noticed a slow but steady decline in the activities on this site, but you keep going anyhow. Nina's A-Camp project stirrs it up a bit, but more and more fans are slowly accepting the fact that with 'best of' the great The Cardigans adventure just might have come to an end. Which would be a shame, but which is somewhat inevitable, it seems. Each of you going your own separate ways, each of you with your own ideas about the music you should play, the last collaboration with Tore just not quite what everyone expected... (SEG isn't better than LGBD ans yes, 'slow' should have been on SEG). With that in mind, I'm still left with some questions I've always wanted to ask but never dared to. I just hope you can make some time to answer them. First of all: what are you all doing now? Nina's busy with A Camp, but Nina is not all of The Cardigans. What are you up to? Have you and Peter formed a proper heavy-metal-band yet? Will Ozzy Osbourne really be the lead-singer? ;-). What are all the side-projects we have to keep an eye on? Second: are there any 'lost' (never before published) Cardigans-songs you would like to share with us (bearing in mind that oddities like 'the other side of the moon' can easily be bought online)? When will the big box full of Cardigans be published? Third: do you share my pessimism? Is this it? Will we ever hear from The Cardigans again? Last but not least: when visiting Sweden... what do you recommend on visiting?

Many, many thanks in advance for answering my questions. If you don't want to share the answers with the whole world (read: post them online) you can always answer me personally at steeman@gmail.com. Which would be great, because, you know, I'm a big fan of the band and emailing personally would be... great indeed.
Superolog, 2009-03-16 14:22:50
Hej!

yeah well, at the moment we´re spread apart but there´s no bad blood between us.
Not considering we´ve been a family for 17 years now... of course a few speedbumps here and there, but nothing serious. Nina´s out rocking the Camp and I play in 7 bands. Though not at the same time.... Still, I can feel like a left over rocker with my prime behind me. At the same time, I love playing in my other bands so it evens out.
I have no idea if we´ll get together again since it has to be based on pure lust.
When Nina is done with the camping, we´ll talk I guess.

But until then, I´ll just enjoy playing other people´s music and relax here in Malmö.

Take care

Hello, is the latest advert for the Ford KA a song by the band? It sounds like the cardigans and it's a fantastic track - if it is you can you tell me the name of the track and the album it's from?

Hope to hear from you as I have tried contacting Ford and Radio 1 to find out...

Thanks,

Hi Mags,

I got the "Up the mountain" cd two days ago and haven't stopped listening since! I must admit that great work has been done in every respect. There are times that your version of the songs rise to be even better than the original stuff!! Titiyo's performance of "Shine" is breathtaking and the acoustic setup in my opinion makes the track sound much better than Collective soul's hard rock original. Maria's vocals on all the songs are really great and give the much needed American feel to the whole concept. And when combined with Lotta in "Mama tried" then you instantly hit the repeat button on media player! what can i say man? keep it up! Maybe you could write your own original country songs. Believe me with the band you've created, they 'd become instant country chart toppers in the States!! Any "Up the mountain" live performances taking place any time soon? (listened to Cecilia, liked "PC rape" need to listen more to draw a safe conclusion. maybe uploading a few more tracks on myspace?)

Take care,
Panos
volpe, 2009-03-15 23:29:29
Thanks a lot! Well the UTM cd is strictly live and all and I do dig it a whole lot.
It is a hobby band but I do love playing in that band, so far away from the big business of the Cardies. We hope to record some studio stuff aswell, but Lotta is very pregnant at the moment so we´ll see what happens. Stuff moves slowly in this band aswell.... ;-)

MagnusS, 2009-04-03 11:47:22
Hi Magnus!

Some bands have live records and they use them to became famous, or more famous (like U2, The Cure). Other bands have live records as a "Best of... live" after some years of career.
I really would like to buy a best of Cardies live ( a double one ) with the typical live crowdy environment.

What do you think about it?

Best wishes!
Amberleaf, 2009-03-29 20:42:58
Hej!

Yeah we were hoping to make one, but no interest from Universal.
I was thinking of making a official bootlag live cd, but it would be very expensive to
mix such an album. And as always, this band is slooooooow... It bugs me sometimes.

MagnusS, 2009-04-03 11:39:15
Hello Magnus,
Thanks for replying to my very bold question. It was the one about Pale Saints plagiarism. You asked which tunes on SEG I found to be sneaky ones ;) Well, I thought Holy Love was very similar to Madonna's Like A Prayer and there was another one on there that sounded like Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins. Maybe it's just my imagination. If I'm being honest I was disappointed with SEG (and the new A Camp) maybe that's why I'm lashing out here.
Well, they are both good albums. I can't fault them, but I think LGBD is a masterpiece and I think it's fantastic! I was hoping for more of the same.

Has Holy Love got anything to do with Like A Prayer? or could that just be my imagination?!. When I first listened to Bear on The beach on the new A Camp, I couldn't help but notice this part of the song that to me seemed almost like a carbon copy of Blue Flower by Pale Saints. Well, No biggy! I didn't throw a tantrum and tear all my posters off the wall just yet, Ha ha!

Cheers again, and I hope there will be another Cardigans album soon.
Vrak, 2009-03-13 02:19:01
Hi!

You´re right about Little black cloud and the Pumpkins. But I like the connection between these two. Sometimes I freak about those things, but this time I bought it.
I have no idea if Nina was thinking of Madonna when she wrote Holy love. I´m not too keen about that one, though Nina liked it a whole lot. I haven´t listened to the Blue Flower A Camp song since I first got the promo.

I agree that LGBD is better than SEG, i think everyone does. But we did our best, think it has some fine songs on it and we tried to distance ourselves from the wolly sound on LGBD. In fact my fave song didn´t even make it on the album, Slow. That should have been on there. But that´s life.

Take care

Magnus,

An exact copy of a question I've just asked in the forum-section of the site, but since you've personally MADE those records, I might as well ask you the question in person.
---
I recently stumbled upon these two releases: "in pursuit of pooh" http://www.discogs.com/release/1373442 and "the world according to..." http://www.discogs.com/release/1373463

Those two collectibles contain some Cardigans-songs THAT I'VE NEVER HEARD (insert shocked face here)! Songs from around the time I first fell in love with this band, so I'm very (very) curious as to how they might sound. Mattias Alfeim on guitar though, and no Lars-Olof in sight... Is there anyone here who has these songs and is willing to share them? Maybe the Cardigans themselves? (Or is anyone willing to sell the records to me for LESS than £199, but that's kind of a long shot). The tracklists:

"in pursuit of pooh"
A1 Treasure
A2 The Rescue Of The Man Next Door
B1 Pooh Song
B2 Dig My Earth

the world according to..."
A1 Rise & Shine
A2 Happy Here
B1 Wrapped
B2 Hard

Many thanks in advance.
Superolog, 2009-03-11 12:51:55
Hi!
Yeah those vinyls, they´re bootlegs. So I´m sorry that people have paid top money to get them... I think there are some at the Forum who can help you. I haven´t got those recordings anymore. I think they might be in some box somewhere....

But these songs... well they were recorded in 93 on Peter´s four track demo machine. On tape...

Rise and Shine is quite similar to the original. Pooh song was recorded at our first session at Tambourine, but we gave it away for a compilation cd. It did surface later as a B side to Sick and Tired I think. A part of... man next door ended up as the guitar thing on Over the Water from Emmerdale.

Don´t pay that silly amount, trade with someone at the Forum!

Hi Mags,

Don't worry, if i become a designer, i'll send you stuff :) So how would you describe your personal style or stage style, if those are any different?

Also I'm gonna see A Camp in Vancouver. I can't wait; it will be the first time I'm seeing any of you perform live. Although the ironic thing is that the plane fare will be 20x more expensive then the ticket itself. Thanks for not overcharging for gigs like some of these other artists like No Doubt. I like them a lot but they are charging $100 when they don't even have new material. And who knows what will happen in the future, with possible merger of Ticketmaster and Live nation....

Guess my style is quite basic, casual shirts and jeans both on and off stage.
The big issue is, do they come in my size...

Hej!

MagnusS, 2009-03-11 10:16:25
Hello.

Your music is great and Nina is defenitely a fashion icon! I´m curious to know if she and the rest of the band receive a lot of clothes from designers who wish to see their outfits on you? A friend of mine is a designer and her clothes would be just perfect for Nina - is there any way she can send them to Nina hoping she would wear them? Thanx!
ekarlberg, 2009-03-05 12:14:47
Hej!
it´s only Nina who gets free clothes and it´s not fair... ;-)
If your friend makes stuff for me aswell, then it´s ok.
I guess the best way is to do it thru Nina´s new management in NYC.
Perhaps you can find info the A Camp sites?
