(I sure hope Magnus isn't answering this one.) Just kidding. Actually, this one is for Magnus. I've been listening to a lot of quirky bands like the Kinks lately. I'm into bands that aren't afraid to sound different. You seem like a good trustworthy source for music recommendations.

P.S. I think you should check out Built to Spill if you haven't. In fact, I think the Cardigans should tour with Built to Spill. I would die happy.
Smitty, 2005-10-30 21:29:22
Hey!

A music freak question! Hurrah!
Well, you mention The Kinks and they´re cool. What kinda era are you looking for?
Old stuff, new stuff? LOts of my fave bands are on display on the links section.
I have taken over that part completely. I love all bands there, noone else in the band have bothered to add links so they´re all mine! Mine, mine, mine!!!! :-)

If you´re into old stuff, you must check The Sonics, the loudest garageband from the 60´s. True Seattle noise and very very sexy music!
You know I am all into the classics too, Dusty Springfield, Queen Aretha, Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Elvis, Ray Charles, lots of classic soul; Al Green, Isaac Hayes, and so on... I honestly don´t know how many records I got but it would probably take me a year to listen through all of them...

But check 16 horsepower and Lambchop for a start, they are real nice american bands!

Good luck

Hey Band!,

You[Magnus] mentioned before that you'd love to do another live DVD but its really up to universal because of the costs. So I[David] was wondering if you know of any email address to send bitter hate mail to universal to maybe help get things in motion?
Something like:

-"Hey Universal!!, Get off your ass' you filthy bastards and fund another Cardigans DVD or i'll sacrifice you to my gods!!!"
love, David-

I'm sure if enough people do it they'll realise there's a demand for it and get cameras ready for your next tour[which starts next year, apparently ; ) ].

Well, you can always try with.... hmm I don´t know anyone at the video department.
But once you find someone, let us know! :-)

Hello to the band,

I would just like to say that I met Nina after a gig few years ago , it was during 2003 I think, she was with another girl cant remember her name and two guys , she probably doesn’t remember me, my name is Cynthia, it was in a pub in London . I say all this as she was telling me and my friend to watch out for a great new song that u guys were gonna put out , it would be on the next album for sure. It was going to be an anti War, Anti American Iraq war song , Do u remember it Nina? U said it was goin to be called Allah In America, so I was one of the first to buy the new album, however, was VERY disappointed to see u guys left out this “great” song : ((((( I was SO looking forward to hearing it.

I don’t think u guys have released any anti war songs yet, so can you please tell me why you appear to have chickened out of releasing it on the new album? Or will it be on any of the B sides?

The new Album is ok.

Cynthia
sassysexygal, 2005-10-31 05:43:38
Hey!

Don´t you think it was The Storm she was talking about?
There was some controversy over that song as a single,
with all them war metaphorses in the lyrics?

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-31 15:43:55
Hi Cardigans!

Remember me? I'm Sara, the intern who was at Gula Studion your last week of recording:) Thank you once again for that time. I've bought your new album, and it's, as earlier mentioned on this site, fantastic!
And it's great for me to hear the songs completely finished! I feel extremely proud to have heard them before everybody else, and everyone thinks I'm a pain-in-the-ass to listen to when I tell them over and over again.
But now, to the question.

Why havn't you had an album-sign in Malmö or Lund?
maybe I've missed it, but I havn't heard of it, and I would very much like to get my album signed.

Thank you, and take care
/Sara
Saratheintern, 2005-10-31 07:59:39
Hej Sara!

it was real nice to have you around the studio! Did you get to see the bonus dvd you helped me with?

We never had a signing session down here, strange cause I was thinking about that the other day when i was shopping records in town...

And strange to write english to you, but now everyone here can understand what we´re talking about. We can arrange if you want your album signed no problems!
Just call Marco or the other guys at Gula and we´ll work it out!

take care

Greetings from our whole band...

How do we go about covering one of your tunes?... we're on a little indie label here in the states and we're not sure what steps to take to do this.
Who do we have our label contact? Who do we pay $$$ too? etc..??
If ya aint down with bands covering your tunes we understand :)

We're still gonna listen to you guys anyway.

Thanks for being an amazing band and for never making the same album twice.

Your friends from New Jersey,

DownNeck, 2005-10-31 09:48:07
Hey!

As far as I know, you can cover any song by any artist! As long as you keep the lyrics intact right?

Just go for it boys and post it here on the Forum later!

Hello there.
Congratulatons. The last two weeks i heard The Cardigans. Not only Super Exra Gravity, but the last three Albums. You are amazing and i like the new Songs a lot. Drip Drop Teardrop is my favourite. Oasis can´t make it better. WOW.
My Question:
Where can i get the Solo-Project Cd from Magnus? It is available in germany??
And the categorie Ask the Band ist great. It´s unique. Thank you for so grat, beautiful and amazing music. I love you guys. And Magnus looks amazing.

Greetings from Berlin. Thorsten
parachutes80, 2005-10-31 11:15:31
Hey Thorsten!

I think you can get my album from Sweden quite easily!
Check www.skivhugget.se och www.bengans.se These are two fine indenpendent shops in Gothenburg who do international shipping! And it should be rather cheap too! :-)

By the way, I hate Oasis. I think Teardrop is a nice copy of our friends in Soundtrack of our lives!

MagnusS, 2005-10-31 15:37:43
Hey Cardigans!!!

I´m exited about the sound of the new album. I have a doubt about it. How do you find this magnific dirty sound? I was thinking about it... Is possible that you give to the mix a gain until 0db in the mastering and because of this the sound appears dirty and in the middle of the sound field, compressors or what? I know that you´ve used broken cymbals to get the mix dirty but what about the guitar, basses and vocals?

And Mags, i´ve just to finish my album at all. Id like to send you a demo. Is it possible? I know that delomo music didn´t like you anymore but i promise you that it is rellay diferent.

Take a hug people!!!

Diego Castaño
DiegoCastano, 2005-10-31 14:24:47
Oh that is such a complex question, but we took a long time figuring out how to record each intrument. As I´ve told before, I played the bass thru a lot of Peters guitar amps. Bengt´s drums was miced with plenty ambience mics to get that loud sound. Peter´s guitars...Hmm I can´t even go into that cause I don´t know what he did! :-) I guess in all, we worked to get the sound very dirty, not beautiful at all and it worked!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-31 15:34:34
Aloha Cardigans!

When will the tour start? (no I'm just kidding)

What is the easiest song to play with an accoustic guitar? I've tried to play you're the storm, but then I realized I really suck...( I tried erase/rewind also...and guess what, no succes *cough*)
So tell me, what song is easiest?!

hejhej!
Ruben
Ruben_D, 2005-10-31 15:17:10
Hej Ruben!

Peter is kinda tricky, he uses capo or he de-tunes the guitar a lot of the times...
but try 03:45! it´s easy! F, D MINOR, A MINOR F, G7 in the verse
Then chorus: C, F D MINOR G7 or something liek that. So easy I even I could do it!

Hi Cardies!

Have you heard Brainpools rock opera "Junk"? In that case, what do you think about it?

Per86, 2005-10-30 11:39:05
Hey!

I got to hear an early version of it, we´re good friend with Brainpool.
I never got to see the live shows though, we were away on tour, such a shame.

Hi guys!

First off I wanted to congratulate you guys on the new album. You've come a long way from "Life" and matured like fine wine. Being a big fan, I always wanted to catch The Cardigans live. So do you guys have any plans on coming down to Australia? Asia even? I dont mind travelling!

PS: Nina will you marry me? ;)

Nina is very married already so you´re a little late...

MagnusS, 2005-10-30 17:44:36
Hej,

I bought your new album yesterday. Me and my boyfriend just love it! LGBD is very important album to us, so, we were excited to hear how this new one sounds like! ...and it sounds lovely - if I can use that word!!
We both think that it sure is a little bit more rock than LGBD, but it's still like sister-album to it, and it's nice that you've maintained the acoustic feeling in it.Ü Thank you for making such a great record again!

We where in your last Tavastia-gig and hope to see you there or somewhere in Helsinki again! So, my question is when will this be?Ü We'd love to see you in your next Euro tour!

Keep up the good music Ü, Sarde&Ernesto from Helsinki
Sarde, 2005-10-30 09:48:41
Hey helsinki!

We are coming over to your lovely town next year, as the tour will start in march or so. We got some more promo work to do in europe and hopefully some in US and canada.

Take care

Hey cardigans (Magnus, Nina ...)

I'm from Austria (near Salzburg) and a fan of you since 1995 (Life-Album)!! After Gran Turismo and Nina's A Camp in 2001 I heard
cardigans-music not so often as before. One week ago I bought Long Gone Before Daylight - I know it's very late to get this record from 2003! But this cd is so great and beauiful - all the songs - Nina's voice is wonderful! Now I must have your new album soon!! Im looking forward to the DVD-version. And congratulation to this homepage!

I also like some other bands from sweden. Especially The Radio Dept. (I think they are also from malmö?!) or The Legends. Which music from sweden do you like?

Greetings from Austria and all the best for the cardigans!

My faves are The Knife and The Concretes, chekc them out man!

MagnusS, 2005-10-30 17:41:14
hej till alla!

I've just heard the whole new album today...very different from LGBD, not the lyrics but musically, absolutely...( I guess you know it;-))
Powerfull music, mostly reminds me to my teenage-years, when I used to listen to louder and faster music than I do nowadays...
I had some doubt if it's possible to make another special music so fast, after your last Cd, but fortunately you did it well!
And Than You Kissed Me II is gorgeus again - right now it's on my stereo!
What about with bonus track?:-)
If it's a bit longer could be a nice "atmosphere music" for Christmas...

I really hope this time you'll come to play in Hungary as well...of course Vienna is still not that far...

Glad you like the album, you´re one of the old time fans!
We will see about Budapest, hopefully we´ll come and play.
We haven´t been since 96 and that´s a shame. Let´s hope for
a nice and grand Euro tour next year! We certainly wanna go and
visit you!

Hey!
Can't you guys record some Swedish songs?
I know, this is not really a question, but I would really like to hear some Swedish songs of you. I am a big fan of your music and of the Swedish language, so I thought it would b a fine combination together. Maybe another question: why don't you make any Swedish songs?

Bye bye
Erickie, 2005-10-29 20:18:44
No we will not record anyting in swedish. We don´t want to, I guess that´s the simple answer.

Magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-29 21:29:00
LIVE PLAYING.

Hello, a question concerning live songs.
When you play songs at concerts do you "naturally" tend to change them, year after year, or do you want to keep the songs like the recorded ones?
And, if you change them, can you tell me which song has been "slightly changed" for live versions, and actually sounds better in your opinion?

I'm asking this because I'd love to see you playing live and I'm so eager that I wanna know a bit of what will happen, now :)

Probably you answer to this thousand times already, but:

Are you coming to play in England? If yes I hope will be in Manchester! It's full of students and sure you can have a crowdy gig there, hehe

Ok, ciao and thanks for your time answering to our curiosities
Emilianino, 2005-10-29 20:26:15
Hey!

Well some songs we changed quiet drastically on the last tour, like Higher and Explode. This to make them more alt country like and it worked out fine!
The other GT songs have some backing tracks so we play them as they´re supposed to be. We normally bring up the tempo on some songs, more live friendly so to speak, guess that will be the case on some of the new stuff aswell.

We will come to manchester if you convince some of them students to buy our album! ;-)

Hey there, I was wondering what you might say to an ex-hardcore punker who thinks he's going a bit soft because he like The Cardigans.
Its not me just a friend of mine who is a fine musician and cant help but like your music, he feels he's turning to the dark side, but I tell him dont worry although Cardigans have been branded as PoP by most I see the band as being some fine musicians making some great songs.

I guess my question is what genre of music do YOU feel you are.
Vrak, 2005-10-28 11:23:52
hey!

Well that´s how I felt when I left the heavymetal stuff and went for the Cure back in 89! There is so much more than just punk, even if it fills its purpose from time to time. I have broaden my horizons so much since we started as a band. Back then I was only into british indie. Now I am into anything that´s good, no matter where and when it comes from.

MagnusS, 2005-10-29 09:28:32
Hey Guys (and Gal) i have been listening to your music for a while yet i never knew that it was you......does that make sense? (sorry)
Anyways, i was just wondering where, what , who inspired the sound you guys have. Its unreal, its kinda retroish, and new at the same time.
Now that iam discovering your music i can honestly say i have yet to find a song i dont like. Also what are your plans for coming to California in 06?-thanks-Tabz
Tabz, 2005-10-28 21:45:37
hey!

well we´ve been lucky to have a great producer and a kinda special sound ourselves.Strong songwriting, great vocals and a nice laidback band. Easy actually once we found the original sound of the band. (on the last album LGBD)

We hope to come visit Cali again soon!

MagnusS, 2005-10-29 09:24:30
Hi Again Magnus! and Hello also to the lovely adorable Nina! ( i see she is answering too! )

I downloaded the Dusty Springfield song, and yes , you are correct ! now i see where u got idea for Daughter :) as you play bass i will now ask you a bass question lol ok? Right, two of my all time favourite Basslines are by the Beatles, Dr Robert and Rain....i love the bass on those songs, can you tell me, what is the best bassline you have heard in a song? your favourite hook, and it CANT! be a Cardigan! Song lol ok? incidentally, of the Cardigans songs i love the fantastic bass on Erase and Rewind, what kind of fuzzbox did you use on there?! faboulous sound, and its really fucking jumping on My Favourite Game! those in my opinion are two prime examples of the genius of Magnus ok?!!! :)))

And for Nina, i LOVE the vocal on HOLY LOVE, near the end, you really! REALLY!!!! go for it big time! FANTASTIC! and i would like to know, how many takes it took Nina! THE TRUTH! LOL

Big Hug for you, and handshake for Magnus!

Padraic
barbarossaaa, 2005-10-29 04:46:03
Hey!

When it comes to basslines, 70´s roots reggae is a nice source! Not that I can use that in the Cardigans music... I can´t think of a fave bassline right now, there are so many.
On stage I just use a regular Boss fuzz pedal, guess I used that in the studio aswell?
I am no genius, I probably just played what Tore and Peter told me to play during the GT album.... I wasn´t the most inspired person that year...

magnus
MagnusS, 2005-10-29 09:22:27
hi best band on the earth!!
I remember once you (Magnus) mentioned in this site that he's into Six Feet Under (TV Show) Is he a fan of that show?SFU is my brother's fave show,he thinks that i am like the younger sister in that show. He also made me a Cardi-fan. (but Nowadays he only listens to the Classical Music,he is old now:p)

And what's all your cardies' Tv favourites? And from the old forum i recall, you guys like The Simpsons, am i wrong?

Another one for Magnus, you were doing Atkins diet, in 2004,weren't you? It seems controversial for health...
And about child caring...I don't know lot about the educational system in Sweden, but you go to a college for Child Development and education?

Hope you'll come Turkey again:) Did you like istanbul? Universal Turkey is closed now but i hope there are other ways to see your new album in Turkey's music stores...You're kinda popular here, since all your previous albums could easily be found both on casette and CD:)
Take Care and love from Ankara

yeah, I am done with six feet under season 4 now and i am sad to see that I got to wait for a 5.th serie, if there is one? I like all HBO series, even though I hate Larry David, I got watch the entire Curb your enthusiasm box sets...
Sopranos is the best though don´t you think?

I studied 4 years of childcare on two levels, highschool and college.

We all liiked Istanbul a lot, a very cool city. We had far too little time to explore it though, we just had 4-5 hours off. Still we went to see Haga Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Real cool stuff!

Hej!

Few quickies:

1. You say that you regret most of 'Life' so A) Why? (because it's a fun album and B) How come you didn't think at the time that you didn't like it, and change it so that you would?

2. You chaps have never really done many covers, but if you were going to, which songs would you do?

3. Why don't you record any songs in Swedish, as it IS your native tongue, because I want to learnt Swedish, and the best way to do it would be by listening to your songs! ;)

Many Thanks,
ADAM
internazionale, 2005-10-28 15:31:54
Well, LIFE was made in 95 and at that time it was what we wanted. Sure it´s charming now but it has no relevance for us now 2005. That´s why we don´t play these songs anymore.

We have done... hmm 6 cover versions, 5 of them released. Maybe not a whole lot and I would like to do more. I hope to include the Springsteen song we played on a future live cd!

Singing in swedish was and is never an option for us, I dislike 95% of all music sung in swedish. You got to buy some linguaphone books instead!

MagnusS, 2005-10-29 09:02:26
Hello!

I have in my head "Holy Love" and I think it's a very good song. Superbe bass sound, also!

But after a while I realized why I like it so much! It sounds to me like a french song that I use to love years ago, "Le Bal Des Laze", by a great guy called Michel Polnareff. Have you never heard of him?

It's the "organ thing" in Holy Love that it's very like the one in this french song. Great stuff, by the way! :D

ARCIMBOLDI, it's the name of the fruit painter!

Quick question to Magnus..: In the dvd there's a moment in which you are playing golf (or a kind of golf, I don't know the right name) ... Well..: just after you shot the ball, the camera it's very low on the ground and shows you from the back, backlit. Did you laughed after that shot? :)

It's very rare to see you smiling (keep cool! I know, looks better!) but I've just felt you are kind of smiling in that scene.. (I've noticed that from your jaw moving! haha)

tell me if I'm wrong, please!
take care and enjoy the..enjoyable

Emiliano
Emilianino, 2005-10-28 19:59:46
Yeah, I was a driving range just shoooting some balls for the camera crew.
They probably filmed me when i got some real crap shots, maybe that´s why?

I have never heard of the frensh song or the painter! :-)

I was listening to the radio here on Maui and heard Lovefool playing on a commercial with someone talking over it...I asked someone if they knew what it was about and they told me that the Cardigans are coming to Hawaii to play at the Maui Arts and Culture Center!! Please please please tell me if there's any truth to that because I can't find a single thing online confirming or denying it. Thanks lads and Nina...I'd love to see you all again.
LarryFabulous, 2005-10-28 20:15:33
Oh, Hawaii sounds like a fine place if you wanna avoid swedish autumn!
But no, we haven´t heard about that concert and by the way, our tour starts next year so I guess we all got to wait. Hope we can make it one day, are there one way tickets to Honululu? ;-)
