Hey!

First off all; I'm lovin the fact you put Gordon's Garden Party on the myspace site - weyhey!

Secondly; on the SEG tour I loved the And Then You Kissed Me segue you played (the whole concept of part I turning into part II blew me away) - I'm gonna guess the answer is no, but is there a bootleg of it you have lying around that you could whack up on the myspace site?

Hope you're enjoying Easter

Hej Ben!

I haven´t actually got a live version of it, but I know there are live versions floating around. Perhaps someone here at Forum can help us out? I would like to put it up there aswell, nice to have spelcial versions on the Myspace site!

Hello Cardigans!
I write from the decadent land of Italia. Since I really like your music (especially Long gone before daylight) and I am in mood for disconnected questions, I ask you if you like a new swedish band called "shout out louds".Do you know any of them? I like them a lot. But you are very special to me too. Saluti dall'Italia! Baci! Silvio
silverjack, 2008-03-22 14:14:05
Hej!

No I don´t know them, think they´re from Stockholm. Heard they got some success in the US, but haven´t listened to them at all.

hola magnus!
I've got another q about the Black letter day single.
In that single it says that "I figured out" was SPONTANEOUSLY recorded. What does that mean?

Thank you

fede
FeDe.ar, 2008-03-23 01:42:18
Eh, it was probably recorded quickly with no extra bling bling, pretty much live in the studio maybe? It was only 14 years ago you know...

mags
MagnusS, 2008-03-23 09:10:12
hey mags!
this is about BLACK LETTER DAY.
I've already bought it and I as you might remember (or not) it includes "I figured out" as a B side and it says that that song was "spontaneously recorded". What does it mean?
Another question: what were you thinking when you thought in the begining of dropping out BLD as a single? I mean it's a song that it took me some time to like because it's slow and not catchy at all if you don't pay atention to the rythim... I would have thought in release I don't know... In the Afternoon or Cloudy Sky... maybe better than Black letter day.

And what do you remember of the video. It's actually good, so retro, the way that was recorded was very cool.
Another ones: about the part that Nina speaks: "Once upon a time there was a scientist with a nose made of silver... blah blah blah,..." What is all that Mags? and Why it was cut off from the videos' song?

thanks

fede
FeDe.ar, 2008-03-21 16:38:51
Oh that old crap song! ;-) I don´t know why that was a single, perhaps we decided to wait with Sick and Tired until after that summer of 94. It´s indeed the strangest single we´ve released and quite possibly the worst. The spoken thing is about a scientist back in the 17.th century or something who thought that all bad days could be cut out of the calander. or something like that. We cut that speeach out to make the song shorter, simple as that. it´s not on the single version either.

Apologies, I wasn't suggesting that any of you have been into drugs but may have had to deal with others in that situation or something. Anyway, never mind - thanks for answering! Another question: I have your Gran Turismo EP remixed by Naid, which I think is absolutely astounding. Do you have a favourite remix of any of your songs and what do you personally listen out for in a remix that makes it worth releasing??
supervixen6, 2008-03-20 11:09:18
I think we all liked the Nåid mixes back then, but honestly, I haven´t listened to them for ten years. We all disliked the idea of remixes, probably cause none of us are dance people.... At least not that kinda dancing. Lasse´s is ace at the Springsteen " dancing in the dark" jive, but that´s a whole different scene I guess. ;-)

Hej!

//Elias
Elias92, 2008-03-20 22:51:32
Hej!

Hi! I really like your best of album...unlike most bands it has your complete collection! ace...

My question for you cheeky cardigans is....

what is your favourite alcoholic drink?? and is kopparberg (excuse spelling) cider actually sweedens favourite cider?

Thanks guys x
noneedtothink, 2008-03-21 11:02:11
Beer and white russians I would think. Not mixed though. Kopparberg might be the biggest cider brand in Sweden. Never tried it though.

hey mags!
im just writing about what this user asked about the chordbooks... they were made in other parts besides japan! I have seen one on my own in Argentina one from the "First Band on the Moon" album.
I got really happy the other day because I found the LGBD DVD version which is rare to get here, and Im waiting for the GH album, Ive oredered it online (because i dont think the 2-cd edition will ever step in this land if not). I wanted to get Emmerdale too because it is the only album from the Cardigans I lack of but it wasnt available :S
Ill get it one of these days anyway
good luck!

Damian
damianm, 2008-03-18 23:03:23
Good to know!
Emmerdale should be fairly easy to get from let´s say amazon.co.uk don´t you think?
Or perhaps someone kind here at the Forum can buy it for you and mail it.
You could trade it with some fine Argentinian beef? ;-)

Hi!

I came across the fashion against aids shirts in a store today and bought your design! it is my favorite out of all the others.

And, the strangest thing happened to me other day. Karaoke night was hosted at my school, and Lovefool and Been It was featured on the songlist. I got up the courage to sing Lovefool since none of your newer songs were available and actually won 3rd place! I wish more people in America treated the Cardigans than more than a one-hit wonder.
dieNarr, 2008-03-19 05:02:39
yeah I know, but 3.rd spot in a karaoke contest isn´t bad as long as there are more than 4 people in it! Surprised to see Been it there, that single sunk like a stone in US... ;-)

Hi Guys, have been a crazy mad fan ever since I bought LIFE on a whim and it changed my summer. We stayed with Celia Inside, got ready to party with Carnival and took Daddys Car and Travelling With Charley to Amsterdam. Fabulous days! I was interested to know whether the lyrics from the album Gran Turismo are prodominantly about drug addiction??
supervixen6, 2008-03-19 10:14:51
Hej!

Hmm since noone in the band use drugs, I don´t think they´re about that. Hmm wonder what Nina wrote about back then. probably love affairs in ruins! ;-)

I can say that my two lyrics on that album " marvel hill" and "Junk of the Hearts" are about the dark sides of stardom and the difficulties of being a group of friends in very hectic times.

Hi Magnus!

I was inquiring about the Cardigans merchandise. I would love a shirt to display my affection for your band, but I've been checking regularly lately, and it seems that all shirts in my size are out of stock! Do you know why there are never any updates on that? Do you guys have any control over that, or is it a separate company? Thanks in advance! :)
Jennanen, 2008-03-19 18:59:13
Hej!

it´s an American company and we haven´t got any control over it really.... sorry.

MagnusS, 2008-03-20 09:00:08
Hej Magnus :-)

Although soon turning 40, I was totally blasted away the first time I heard "Hanging Around" in the radio back in 2003. The label "distinguished, innovating rockband" was written all over it and it went straight into my head like a file on a harddisk and somehow it cant/wont ever be removed - strange, is´nt it? :-)

Anyway, I would like to know Bengts drum setup, especially on that song. I heard he is using two bassdrums in extension, but Google wont tell me anymore :-/
Was he using wooden drumsticks in the studio? It sounded like he was using metal sticks at Roskilde Festival ´03 and it confuses me a bit. Thank you in advance :)

Regards,

Anders
anders_b, 2008-03-20 02:36:16
Hej!

Hmm it´s ten years ago and I don´t remember much from the GT recordings. But Bengt´s drums were super edited and chopped to pieces by Tore. I don´t think we played thru any of the songs on that album. He was just instructed to play the verse beat for some minutes and then the chorus beat, very industrial take on music.
So perhaps that´s why it sounds the way it does? He´s never used metal sticks live, just pure wood. But the double bassdrum thing is true, one of Tore´s innovations! ;-)

reeza_mohd, 2008-03-17 13:37:59
Hej!

No , as far as I know there´s only one ( or maybe two) chord books and they were all made in Japan back in the mid 90´s. Those are very entertaining, especially the lyrics!
it would have been a fairly easy for thing for these Japanese guys to consult the record sleeve for the lyrics, but they decided to give it a try themselves. Very amusing ingrish!

Hej!

The old owner of the Cardigans MySpace site was a bit weird.
You only had to ask: "this site isn't official, right?", then you got blocked

Maybe it was old Micko?

How did you got access to it ?
Moloko, 2008-03-16 13:24:19
Oooh, that old sod! I had totally forgotten about him, better keep it that way!
Our management emailed and told me that they had gotten hold of the owner.
I really don´t know how, but it´s nice. I think the band should have the rights to that domain. Nice to see that so many people have reacted positively on the change.
I´ll keep on providing odd songs to you guys, it´s easy work and real fun.

Hey,
Yup, that fixed it Magnus... hmmm... yeah, not sure what we did to get banished from that site. I think I was very naughty and asked a question or something.
I'm glad I got a pardon from the new governor! And, it's probably nice you were able to pardon your own righteous boy site and all those others as well. I know that Astrid and Nathan are pretty diabolical, though, so you might regret unblocking them. hehe ;-)

Thanks, Mags!

Hey again! Just wanted to check in about your investigation about where it's possible to get some The cardigans clothes :P I'm sure you got tons of stuff to do but I'm going crazy here :(
Tried to private message you but seems like it didn't work.

I also heard you lost your record deal is it true?! How the hell.. Someone over there should be fired. Hope you can get a new deal somewhere else!
Jimmie88, 2008-03-15 14:05:10
Hej!

Well the easy way to do it is to order from the merch here on the site.
The harder way is to commit burglary to our rehearsal space and look for t shirts.
They´re all the way in the back, big boxes marked Fruit of the loom... ;-)

MagnusS, 2008-03-16 10:28:02
Magnus,
I know I'm being a pest about this, but since my friend requests aren't making it through... I must be a "blocked" user from the previous Cardigans myspace page owner.
You should just have to do this, click the following:

Account settings > Privacy > [View list] (under "Block Users") > unblock your truly (I'm called "Dale".)
Then I should be able to send you a request and you should get it. Sorry, I just feel silly not being able to be on the official Cardigans myspace friends, especially with all the cool stuff you've put up there. Sorry for being a hassle... You might see if Laika isn't also blocked while you're at it.

Your homey,
Dale
Bac, 2008-03-16 05:05:24
Hej!
Indeed very strange, but you were absolutely right. Wonder what bad things you had done to the previous "owner" of the site? My righteous boy site and Nathan´s Hot one Inc was blocked aswell. And so was laika... strange!

Anyways, it´s now fixed and you´re all most welcome to join us on Myspace!

MagnusS, 2008-03-16 10:26:21
Hey again Mags!

First of all my wife assures me it was your smile that won her over, though she does agree it makes you look a bit like a monkey! ;) I think that says more about her than you though!

Just wanted to say thanks for answering my question, and in answer to yours, yes we've been listening to the stuff on myspace you managed to dig out of the archive. Loving the "Boys Are Back In Town/In The Afternoon" medley - very cool.

I was having a (drunken) conversation with some friends the other day and we were each saying which band we'd want to be in if we could. So, the same question to you - apart from the Cardigans, if you could be in any band in the world which would you choose and why?

Cheers again

James
jamesperkin, 2008-03-12 15:44:22
oh, hmm. I could think of Lambchop, but that means I´d replace my friend Matt Swanson and I´d like to have him on tour aswell. Brian Jonestown Massacre is another for the music, not for the Anton Newcombe drama... ;-)
Velvet underground would have been cool, but their heydays are long gone.
Guess there are quite a few bands. problem is you´d probably love the band a whole lot less if you were to play those songs night in and night out. And fight the bandmembers over silly issues....

Hej Mags.

A question my friend asked me and i couldnt answer... "what's the Cardigans favourite concert venue/country to play in" i had no idea but i could answer only that is wasnt Stockholm... ;)

Also any chance we could have Johann Mjällby back even though he's maybe a bit old... There hasnt been a player like him ever for Celtic in my opinion or in my lifetime anyway. Great personality. Great character. Might not have been the greatest technically but he sure knew how to defend Celtic's colours better than anybody... this team lacks character and we probably will not win the league.

Also your a Barca fan... but what Swedish team do you follow?

martin. glasgow.
doffen., 2008-03-15 08:30:47
Not sure Johan Mjällby are fit for football anymore, heard his knees are fucked up for life. But a great defender for sure. Fave venue? hmmmmmm I don´t know, but it´s not Sthlm for sure. We all liked the place we played in last time in Glasgow. That club must have the cleanest and cosiest backstage area in UK. Manchester was a little different, back to the usual stoneage. You can watch it on one of our tour videos.

I support Hammarby in the Swede league, but I´m not the fan i used to be.
I used to go watch the Malmö games aswell, but it´s all rather depressing.
One tends to get spoiled with La Liga, Premier league and CL on tv every week...

Take care

Hey Mags!

Have you and the band ever been asked for memorabilia? I wonder if somewhere one of Peter's guitars or a hairlock of Nina is hanging up on the walls?! :)

And, are you still watching the Champion's League?? which team has impressed you more so far? and which one would you like Barca to avoid in the quarters?? I think Arsenal is the toughest to deal with.. (maybe because it kicked out my poor Milan? haha).

Take care!
Luca
mambo23, 2008-03-12 23:24:41
Hej!

Hmm I don´t think Nina will give away her hair, it´s too precious for her. ;-)
None of us have given guitars to Hardrock cafés around the world, nout our own at least!

Looks like the English teams are all tough to beat, perhaps a final between two of these teams? Arsenal and Man U maybe? Though I do hope for Barca... It will be tough.
