Hej Mags,

i was listening to "if you were (less like me)", and wondered:

- why did you decided to make a different version of Good Morning Joan?

- which one do you like most?

- During the SEG tour, did you play GMJ a lot? Or IYW(LLM)?

I have to say that i like both, but there is something that I love in GMJ!!! It reminds me of some british groups I like....and when it is almost at the end, and you guys play (something around 2'55"....it's awsome!)

But in both songs Lasse did a really good job!! And Bengt!

Hej!

I think we did bit of a mix between the two live, but I canīt remember really.
I know Peter is a little disapointed in both versions, he thinks itīs one of his best songs.
Perhaps weīll do another version to get it right? ;-)

MagnusS, 2008-03-14 08:17:01
Hi Mags, I'm Diego Hipolito from Mexico again. I've got two questions for you. I wonder why the song "The road" wasn't included in Long gone before daylight why you didn't put in that record? this song is too beautiful and Nina's voice is so sweet on it, why? and what "Give me your eyes" was not included in Super extra gravity this song is wonderful it sounds too indie wow! I love it, both are amazing you sound very different on them and I loved it, but why they weren't part of those albums. Answer me soon. Take care.
hipolito, 2008-03-13 04:15:31
Hej!
Well we didnīt think they were as good as the other songs. And we chose to keep the albums a little shorter, 11 songs on both albums I think? Simple as that!

MagnusS, 2008-03-14 08:15:03
Hi Magnus,

I just read on the Wiki that there was a submission by you guys for the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies"... Could you divulge some details regarding this? I just listened to the Saint Etienne submission and it sounds great but the style of it was really out of place for the time..!

Thanks a lot! :D

smithyj, 2008-03-12 05:44:34
hej!

Yeah we were asked to do a song back in hmm...97/98. We were all exhausted back then so we actually turned it down, to my big disapointment. But then we realised that the offer had gone to virtually all cool popbands in the western hemisphere... ;-)
I would have wanted to give it a try at least.
Peter did have an idea for a song, but he gave it away to a friend of his.

Hey Magnus!

I posted back on 2008-03-02. Thanks for getting to my question... I have the first 'A Camp' album and, although it's very good, it just doesn't have the same effect for me as when you all get together to make a 'Cardigans' album. I've been listening since 'Carnival'... I very much hope you do all get back together! In response to your 'tiny tiny' question, Noel Gallagher did say some pretty awful things about Damon Albarn back in the day but he's since recanted expressing instead an admiration for Albarn in the wake of his many side projects i.e. Gorillaz, The Good The Bad & The Queen, Mali Music, etc. Between you guys, Radiohead, Blur, and Cake... I'm not quite sure who I like most. Although, not sure if you've heard of them, but lately I've been heavy into this group from your corner of the world called 'Lykke Li'. Very good. Anyway, thanks again... I was just listening to 'Lovefool'... never gets old!

All the best,

Mat
Ozymandias, 2008-03-11 19:25:11
yeah Lykke Li is from Sweden indeed. I think itīs a solothing not a group though. I heard a song on the radio yesterday and it did indeed sound real good. Sweden must have good soil when it comes to musicians in the alternative field. I shall check her out and perhaps, so should everyone else?

Iīve always loved to hate Oasis, mainly because their horrible attitude. Never been a Blur devotee either, but between these two bands, I think theyīre way ahead when it comes to musical quality.

Right now Iīm digging thru British psychadelia from late 60īs and the San Fran scene from the same period. Lots of interesting stuff you never knew excisted! ;-)

MagnusS, 2008-03-11 22:10:15
Hey Mags!

Gotta start by doing some good ol' fashioned lovebombing and saying I'm loving the Best Of CD! The second disc has some real gems on there I'd never heard - in particular I liked the bassoon song that one day evolves into Junk Of The Hearts. Anyway, only the Cardigans could do a Best Of album in such a unique way, so well done and thanks!

Just listening to the second disc and it struck me there's quite a few indie-pop songs like Plain Parade, Nasty Sunny Beam and Blah Blah Blah which would have fit right in with the more generic indie/britpop being done in the UK at the time and could have been singles. Obviously these songs were used as B sides and so I wondered if as a band you were conscious to keep your albums (and the singles from them) more edgy and soulful and were trying to distance yourself from that kind of pop?

Oh, and a couple of years ago we saw you in Manchester and my wife fell in love with you (I think you may have smiled at her or something)!

James
jamesperkin, 2008-03-11 14:03:52
Hej James!

Well hmmm tricky question there. Plain parade was an old song that we skipped for our first album. I donīt think it had to do with the style, or perhaps Peter wanted to make new jazzier tunes instead of those quirky popsongs? I really donīt know, I think we just thought it was below par sort of. Same goes for the other songs. They were in fact written mid thru or after the recording of First band, or perhaps not? Anyways, we thought they fitted better as B sides than on that album. Theyīre all the same style though these songs, so perhaps you got a point?

Have you listened to the oldie tunes I put up on our Myspace site? Kinda nice!

Mags ( not too keen on my own smile since I do look a little like a monkey then...)
MagnusS, 2008-03-11 16:55:56
Hi!!!
I just wanted to say that I love the band!
I think your music really stands out from the majority...so keep the good work.
Actually, I wanted to know if you're thinking in doing a new album, but from what I understood you're not. Right?

Cheers,
Carlos
cjesus, 2008-03-11 14:16:39
hej!

Well not now. Nina is busy doing her own 2.nd solo album and the rest of us do this and that back home. Lasse, Bengt and I will play with our fake christian country band next month, that should be fairly classic. So we try to keep busy... well sort of ;-)

For someone who was looking for the PAUS CD:

You can either buy it off www.hotstuff.se or contact Record Hunter in Stockholm, I know they have several used and new copies (link: http://www.recordhunter.se/pro...id=28957 or just: http://www.recordhunter.se/). They are really friendly guys, just ask them if they ship to you. I find a lot of stuff at their little shop, and you always get a good deal!

I love you The Cardigans, so much...so nice pop rock, I will buy all your records, you are really unique, special, original, not boring to death like 99.99% of pop I heard lately. By the way I saw all your videos on dailymotion.com. I'm so amazed, so entertained. You don't sound like The Fall but I think about them when I listen to you. XXXXXX to Nina (if she doesn't resist) and a handshake to the guys ciao !!!

hej mags,

of course i know that innsbruck is florian horwath's hometown (it's mine aswell), but unfortunately he isn't playing much gigs here.
i've only seen him once in innsbruck, in 2004 at a festival
of a radiostation, i guess he has never played a gig here alone.

..the reason for this might be that the music scene isn't huge at all,
but it's great to hear that he will play here again in may!
thanks for the info.
Biancale, 2008-03-10 16:22:31
Yeah so you there in hmm late May , around the 28:th or so.

Hey Guys! Lately I've been completely inspired by your music. When I say lately, I mean, throughout the past few years. Everytime I feel like I'm getting dried out on the Cardigans, I discover a new song from an album that somehow slipped by in the past. For instance, 3:45 No Sleep, is one of the most incredible songs I've heard in my entire life. The atmosphere, the instruments, the lyrics, the vocal melody, its just outstanding. You guys seem to have an unbreakable chemistry, and a great bond with eachother. Was this band chemistry there from day one? or did you have to work on it? I love that the band members have remained the same throughout these years. It shows me that being in a band is more than just the music, but the family that creates it. I find myself so frequently wanting to create music that is as true and meaningful as yours. I've rambled on with nonsense, but while asking my question, I wanted to also show my utmost respect for everything you guys have created musically. By the way, the best of disc is fantastic. I got the double disc version. I agree with what I read in one of the other questions, 3:45 No Sleep definitely deserved a spot on there... but with so many amazing tunes to chose from, something fantastic had to be cut.

Respectfully Yours,
Kev
kevinatrask, 2008-03-06 17:31:04
More lovebombing! ;-)
Nice to know you love 03:45, I think itīs one of Nina and Peterīs highlights and one of my very very fave songs of ours.

Like you say, we are family. Sometimes spirits are high and sometimes low, but weīve remained intact since 1993 when Lasse AKA Lo-J, Ten fingers Johansson came in. I think somehow we all very focused on our target, but I think thatīs common for all serious bands. Then we were blessed with Peterīs songwriting skills and Ninaīs voice. Bengtīs drumming style is also quite significant. So all in all, a good mix of people with talents waiting to bloom.

You take good care

MagnusS, 2008-03-09 16:39:20
Hi,just bought the Best Of double CD, and have been knocked out by the quality of the material on the bonus disc. Since I heard `Sick and Tired' on Mark Radcliffe's show back in 1994, I was hooked by the best pop song I ever heard. I was in a record shop off Oxford Street, London shortly after and stayed for about half an hour while they played the whole album ! I've bought everything ever since and it has to be said you guys just get better with age (like a fine wine).

Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the craftsmanship which goes into your songwriting, and so beautifully topped off with Nina's voice which is a precious jewel. It's incredible how she can sing so close miked, quite breathtaking.

By the way, I'm with your drummer...`Give Me Your Eyes' is a stunning song, the key change before "mirror mirror... is heaven on earth. You guys really understand music and it shows. God forbid that an English band could write as good. The problem with most of them is that they're too bothered about drugs and supermodels to bother to learn enough chords to write a decent song that we haven't all heard a million times before.

May you find those exquisite chord changes for ever more, love to you all, and enjoy your sabbatical !
Beebfader, 2008-03-06 22:27:25
oh we love these lovebombing letters! If only all could be like that! ;-)

Seriously weīve tried to get along with supermodels and take loads of drugs but it just doesnīt do it for us... ;-) We prefer the casual beer binge with our friends , home or abroad. Nice to hear youīve been supportng us for all this time, dedication man!

Next week Iīll put up some rare radio and live stuff from mid 90īs on our Myspace site, check it!

Take care

Just wanted to ask a question. Are you thinking of making a new live DVD?

p.s great music, love everything you make!
Rivaner, 2008-03-07 01:13:33
hej, very common question and rightfully so. I have no idea if or when that will happen. We donīt tour now or even make a new album and we havenīt got a record label so itīs rather unlikely in a near<future...

I would love if you could put some early demos in Myspace, like Simon Says or Celebration (1993)
It would be possible?
Thanks a lot

Hey Magnus!

This is my first post on your lovely website but I've been a huge Cardigans fan since I first heard 'Sick and Tired' back in 1995 and its still one of my favourite songs.

My question is have you ever noticed the similarity between the opening of 'Give Me Your Eyes' and the opening of the Jackson 5's recording of 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'? Its worth a listen if you've never heard it.

Thanks for the past 13 years and for the superb new best off. Give my best wishes to the rest of the band!

Mike.

Hey The Cardigans! First of, just wanted to say I love your music. I recently picked up the Best of album and it rocks.
Anyway for my question I looked through the site and searched the Q&A's for an answer but I was unable to find one. I'm trying to find a place where I could buy some cool T-shirts or other clothes with The Cardigans on? I saw the "You need to be nicer"- ones but I'm looking for clothes that actually say The Cardigans. Are there any out there?

/SwedishFan - Can't wait for new stuff with you guys keep it up!

Is there nothing on the american merch site? Hmm well if not there, we might have something in our warehouse in Malmö... Let me investigate!

MagnusS, 2008-03-09 16:21:08
Hey Magnus!

Today I was trying to make some kind of playlist on Itunes with the songs I considered the best from all your albums. Just to don't have to listen to ALL songs when I want some Cardigans :P. When I finished I realized that I had included a lot more songs than what I wanted... in fact, almost all the songs! That proves 2 things: that make a career like yours fit in a Best Of compilaton like the one recently released is very difficult. And second, that you have a LOT of GREAT songs.

Haven't bought the cd yet, but I'm satisfied with the tracks you have chosen.

Thank you for still been there! (And hoping to hear some new songs in the future :P).

Fredi.
Fredi, 2008-03-01 21:33:09
Hej!

Well, I think it was a little tricky too, but our mission was to compile all singles and then add fine album songs ( non singles) from all records weīve done. I think all of us would have wanted more songs off LGBD, but that album is out there and anyone could buy it.
( Everyone should own it!). So if I were to pick songs... hmm then if thereīs a chance and Slow would have been on the Best of album disc one. I would have excluded the Tom Jones song, Losers and War. Feathers and down would have been on it for sure and 03:45, no sleep aswell. But you canīt have everything, I think our plan to even out the number of songs from each album was a good one.

Hi guys! I'm Luca from Verona (Italy). First I would like to express my gratitude for your music, it's simply great and it's so difficult say anymore.. I follow you since the 1998, "Erase & Rewind" was my first love.. But in this days, I don't know but I listening without stop "Live and learn"..It's perfect :)
So I would ask you: at the moment when you write a song, it's clear straight away if will be a success?

Thank you again and hope to see you very very soon.
Good luck for your next works!
Bye, Luca.
roadrules, 2008-03-03 11:18:19
Hmm, thatīs a question for Peter really. But I guess I could answer it, from a listenerīs point of view. The first time Peter plays a new song for us, I think we all can recognize itīs quality. ( or very seldom lack of it). Then if itīs going to be a hit, noone knows.
All we can do is to maximize its potential by adding a double chorus in the end, making the intro-to the first verse- to the chorus efficient and so forth. This goes for most songs, but of course most importantly for the single wannabees. Some songs, you shouldnīt rush, then the beauty of them go away. Take Youīre Storm, thereīs a great singalong chorus to it, but the intro is too vague for commercial radio success. Sure it was played a lot in Scandinavia, but weīve been a big band here for quite some time.
On the other hand, Lovefool and MFG start off in a catchier way and they were bigger hits. Something like that.

Hi Magnus;
I'm calling from Chile, :) , How do you do?..........Well, I'm listening right now Godspell, and I have a doubt about the lyrics. I 'm not really fluent in english, so I can't understand very well if the song "talks" about religion,....the Bible,........or you can
The song sounds great, but you know,......I'm catholic so I'm confused about the lyrics.
Well, bye and as the swedish says "Thank you for the music, the songs Im singing Thanks for all the joy you're bringing", hehe
Jocf, 2008-03-03 02:39:21
Hej!

This is one of the more frequent questions. Iīve answered it a few times before but it would probably take you some time to find my answer. So, the song is ( at least partly)about a Swedish sect like church where the pastor had mistresses who conducted a murder on one or two of the church members. I donīt remember all of it really, but it was a BIG thing here in Sweden a couple of years ago. Appearently these church crazy people followed the pastors wish to have these people killed.... But then itīs also about the mystery why lots of people want other people to think for me, political or religious leaders and so on.
