Hej Magnus! how are you.?

Just writing to ask if you managed to watch the Celtic, Barcelona match last night? I was there it was great to see such fantastic players live.

It was football at its best last night, a wonderful night of European football with two of the world's great names, the fans living the excitement of a game of fluctuating fortunes, a spectacle both absorbing and intese - where the dollar signs and power brokers have no presence worth thinking about amidst the determination and skill of good players and the fans' unrivalled passion for the game. And The Cardigans best of' is out next Monday here in Glasgow! What a week!

Martin.

I wish I was there man! I totally missed that game since I had promised our friend and LGBD producer to move a piano... Things you do for longtime buddies you know.

sorry... got a little carryed away...

question: Where did "Cocktail party, bloody Cocktail party" Came from?
Is it a real party or was it recorded in studio and added sounds of glasses and talking latter?

Love this/those song/s
Fernandobtn, 2008-02-20 15:29:56
No, it´s actually fake. Well the party at the studio was real so we recorded the ambience then. A week later or so, Ivan played the piano and we recorded him.

Hi guys, my questions here:

How to define their musical style?
What are the sources of inspiration to write your music?
Is the disc a big success final goodbye?

Apreciaria respond because their responses are for a review of his record in a Chilean publishing, where many fans yours ...
mundy, 2008-02-19 22:47:58
hola!

I don´t think we got a definition for our music, classic pop perhaps? Inbetween indie and mainstream pop. Our source for music is Peter´s head and I don´t know what´s going on in there. All I know is he´s a great songwriter who has developed his style over the years. All the way from the sometimes quite weird indie pop songs of the mid 90´s to classic songwriting a´la Communication and Don´t blame your daughter.

We have no intention to quit the band, so this best of disc is more a way for Universal to get some money. And perhaps for us to remind some people of all great songs we´ve done?

Take care

Hi Mags
Finally I got my "best of" copy, great compilation, I liked a lot the notes for every song!
Here's my question:
Will the microsites ever be finished? or did you abandon them forever? xD

Greetings from Mexico!
Ana_RP, 2008-02-20 04:57:44
Hola!

Well I think they are abandoned forever. They were made by our old website moderators and caretakers Assaf and Antoine, who decided to leave our site when we moved it to Sweden.

Hey Mags.

I'm just about to buy the 2-disc Best Of CD from CDON, but I'm worried about what language you used for the linear notes. If I buy from a Swedish website, will I be stuck with Swedish linear notes, or are they all in English? You said before that yourself, Nina and I think Peter were working on the linear notes in different languages? Do those three different translations appear on every edition of the album? Or maybe I've completely misunderstood...

Thanks.
Small-Talker, 2008-02-19 21:25:55
DOn´t worry, it´s all in english!

Hej Henrik!

Det blir lite klurigt då vi är utspridda mellan Malmö, Stockholm och New York....
Men jag ska se vad jag kan göra!

MagnusS, 2008-02-19 17:45:08
It's ok, of course!

I didn't notice that these other singles are missing, too

I just love the cover of Cuckoo, I have a huge self-printed poster
of it in my room (2 x 1,5 meter)
It's a very cool portrait of the "mid 90s Cardigans" especially Nina's sunglasses

According to the new If There is a Chance-Video : Where was the live footage shot? I kinda think it´s Berlin, not quite sure though.
And ever heard of The Mary Onettes? They´re from Jönköping and they are darn swell...
CharlieCharlie, 2008-02-19 00:14:57
Hej!

It could well be Berlin and some other places, Riga or Kiev for sure. The end shots by the road is from Prague to the German border. All those houses by the road are bordellos....

Mags
MagnusS, 2008-02-19 17:43:55
Well, I thought I knew all your stuff. Then I hear "The Road" on the Best of Album. Where did this song come from? What album? And can you tell me anything else about this hauntingly beautiful song? Thanks
vagabondo, 2008-02-19 00:39:39
hej

Glad you like it, we like it aswell. it was recorded during the LGBD sessions in England but was skipped for the album. I guess it ended up as a B side, or a bonus track for UK? I can´t remember right now....

MAAAAAANNNNNNN it's me again... The guy who said you have fallen.
Man... I've been whatching some interviews of you, and tring to understand why do you hate your selfs in the beguining. In some interviews for the First Band in The Moon you say (in other words) you are done with invited musicians, that you wore gona star to play as a band of 5 people, keeping it simple n stuf.

In an onther interview, a much more recent one, you simply say "Emerdale... a very boring album"

Nina says she is into coutry music, and, while playing with a friend who also enjoyed it, composed A Camp.

Well... I'm wandering if America is making it to you. You see, the plastic music that people are listening to nowdays is garbage.

Folk has it's place with dirty guitars and rough voices.

well... I'm losting trak here. Let me go strait to the point. WHY DO YOU HATE YOUR EARLY SELFS?

Halloj Magnus,

Hej!

I feel sorry for Your New Cuckoo. You've said a few times that the band doesn't really like this song. Why not? I think it's a great song; it kicks off First Band on the Moon like a jackhammer in a tin hut, the bass is damn funky, the flute is fun and it has some nice lyrical twists and turns. What's not to like?
DrChristof, 2008-02-19 12:34:23
It´s cheesy! ;-)

Hej Mags,

in my previous question, i asked you about the mistakes during a concert. An there was something in your answer that raised my interest:

You said that the band has a policy against drinking before the concerts.

I think that's a very good policy. I once went to a concert and the singer was so drunk that he couldn't even stand up. Total waste of my money.

So i was wondering: when did this policy begin? and why? Did the band have any problem with drinking (for example: making bad concerts)?

Keep up with that. It shows that the band respects its fans (and yourselves rs).

Take care
vivigomide, 2008-02-19 17:34:25
Hej

We´ve always had that policy as long as I remember. I have been a little too tipsy on two occasions, one in Örebro and one in San Fran. I tell you it´s no fun when you feel as you got bbq mittens on your hands....

Hey Cardigans

I know it's a long time ago you made the Original clip to "Lovefool". But i don't understand the sense of the story in this clip. I'm always interested in the clips too :-D

greetings

Marina
MarinaM, 2008-02-16 21:25:04
Good question cause I´m not sure that we understood it either, not then or now...
But I think it´s like we boys in the band have a gang where the older gentleman is the boss and he´s in love with Nina or something....

Mags
MagnusS, 2008-02-18 17:10:54
Hi Magnus! Just 2 small silly questions. I'm really interested in your musical liking...

Which artists are The Cardigans' main influences?
How do you feel about Bjork, CocoRosie and Skunk Anansie? you like them? (I do love them!)

Thanks a lot!
Love your music.
alvaro999, 2008-02-16 22:03:28
Hej

I don´t know about musical influences really, I mean what we all listen to on our free time might often be a whole different thing to what we sound like. Peter mostly listens to metal music for one...

I haven´t listened to Björk in a long while, but she´s cool. Coco Rosie I should listen to cause Nina says they´re way cool,. Skunk Anansie... well what I´ve heard I don´t like at all.

Mags
MagnusS, 2008-02-18 17:09:27
Are all these collected cardigans records on the startpage from you or someone else in the band? or is it archive-material from Universal ?

And why is the Your New Cuckoo single missing?

Lots of really important questions!

: )
Moloko, 2008-02-17 20:09:04
hej!

That compilation of records if from Christer Mellström, the product manager of Stlm records, he´s a collector! ;-)

We don´t like You´re new cuckoo, so we decided to skip that one, Hey get out of my way and Black letter day singles. Instead we picked some other tracks, hope that´s ok?

Hi Mags, just for your info (and for my fellow countryman/woman who asked previously), the Cardigan's Best Of gets a release in Indonesia :)

in fact, it was available on two versions. one is the deluxe 2 disc edition, with the "super jewel case" thing, those rounded corner cases Universal has been releasing. the other one is the "economy edition", which is just 1 disc with a black cover sleeve liner note (just the cover and the inside cover). the special edition is priced at Rp 90,000 (less than USD 10) and the other one is only Rp 55,000 (which is around USD6).

Hi Magnus,

I'm curious as to the percent contribution to the liner notes on the Best Of. By the way i just got it in the mail from Goteburg and i'm squeezing lots of joy from it.

Here's my guess to the contributions:

Bengt - 10%
Lasse - 10%
You - 45%
Nina - 15%
Peter - 20%

Thanks, Have a good day!
siyuan, 2008-02-14 20:03:29
Hej!

Hmm no it´s rather me 45%, Peter 35 and Nina 20 ( she especially gets credit for the translation)

But you were rather close! ;-)

Re: Sveningsson font

Magnus,
I saw the question about that font. That font was created years ago (about 1997, I think) by someone who had a Cardigans site called Derek's Gardenparty. He also made a font in the same style as the LIFE album font and called it "Gardenparty". Both are great fonts. I don't remember the fellow's name at the site. I guess it was Derek something.

And I don't think that site exists anymore. But this was the address: www2.ucsc.edu/people/dego/gardenparty.html

There you go!

Hej Mags,

I was listening to some live performances of yours, and it's noticeable that every once in a while Nina makes some mistakes with the lyrics.

Considering that her mistakes are the easiest ones to notice (especially for people like me that don`t know how to play any musical instrument), i ask:

among you guys (the 4 men of the band), who usually makes more mistakes during a concert?

By the way, i also have to congratulate you all...it`s amazing how you manage to keep a really great quality of your sound in a concert.....the quality is very close to the studio (the cd). That's not an easy thing, which to me, just proves how amazing you all are.

Love to love you all
vivigomide, 2008-02-14 02:06:49
Hej!

Hmm I don´t know who makes mistakes most often, that´s a very good question.
I guess since we always keep a very strict policy against drinking before shows, we all perform quite well. Most of the time, we never play any false notes, but it happens. Especially on the first shows of a tour.

Glad you like the live songs, some of the Myspace songs aren´t even properly mixed, just straight from DAT tape. But they sound fine for the purpose anyway!

MagnusS, 2008-02-14 17:27:47
Hi Magnus,

why it´s always you, who has to answer the questions? And how i can see, in the middle of the night.
Are the other ones too lazy?

MagnusS, 2008-02-14 17:25:21
greetings and salutation,
I just got my hands on the best of, good listening. I played it then I played it again. later I will play it some more. I just noticed this new look website too. Its pretty slick. and also I noticed this competetion and thats what my question is about. Is it too late to enter? and who will be the impartial judge of this contest? regardless of creed culture religion or photoshop skills I'm asuming ;) I'm pretty useless with photoshop, but I'll give it a go.
and one more question. Will you guys be back with another album or does this best of mark the end of an era? :(

anyway, I hope you make more records because cardigans is the good stuff, and theres a lot of pap out there.

Pap out!
Vrak, 2008-02-12 00:44:10
hej!

Well I don´t know too much about this competetion either... But I´m pretty sure there are no restrictions when it comes to religious beliefs or even photoshop skills...
The impartial judge might be us in the band, but who knows?

We hope to be back in the studio, but when noone knows. I´ve been listening and watching live stuff and come to realise that we were and still are a pretty good band. Nice thing to know! ;-)

take care and good luck!
