Hey magnus,
saw a pretty good danish movie on tv ,its title was AFTERMATH. When credits came up ,Nina was covering REM,s song losing my religion.A good cover it has to be said.Any idea what cd its to be found on?
cheers paul.
thunderbirdiv, 2006-09-27 18:28:13
No idea Paul, haven´t seen the movie to be honest. Guess I´ll have to borrow it from Nina. But scout the original title thru IMDB.com and then google the soundtrack. If there is one of course!

hi magnus!!
first of all... great the show in Bilbao, Spain!!
Well, in www.imdb.com says about nina "she plays harmonica, some guitar, piano and drums", is it true? I know she plays the harmonica, but not the oder ones. All of you are great musicians!
The next time you come to spain, you have to come to GRANADA, amazing city, sure you like. See you soon!
(sorry about my poor english)
Besos!
maytemanson, 2006-09-27 15:25:23
hey

No Nina is actually crap at all instruments except harmonica. Her voice is her instrument and a very fine one it is. No sorry, she can play a little piano and drums.

hej there, magnus!

i was just wondering, as someone who can't read notes, how exactly do you write down music you write or bass-lines to play? do you simply write down the chords or do you have special symblos or draw pictures or so?
and is it necessary for a musician to be able to recorgnise notes or chords when you hear them or do need official tabs if you wanna do a cover version?

take care, annika :-x
-berlin-, 2006-09-26 23:18:43
hmmm, well Peter read and writes music and so does Bengt. But since the restv of us doesn´t , they don´t use it. I learn very quickly since bass is fairly easy to play. So whenever Peter has a new song, I am the first one to get thru by playing very simple bass notes. Then I explore my playing and add more complex lines. Or just keep it ultra simple, depending on the song. Don´t blame your daughter really just needed the key bass notes and nothing else. Some other songs like Paralyzed are built upon a bassriff. (which Peter actually wrote himself).

So no, I don´t need to read music, if we were to do more covers, we could figure it out quickly. Especially Peter with his experience in songwriting and chord progreesion from music school. Easy as a sunday morning! ;-)

Magnus,

You really do get asked some strange questions on here. Aliens!?!?!?!? Probably all par for the course of being in a rock band i suppose. LOL. What's the strangest question you've ever been asked?

Paul
bassman, 2006-09-27 10:07:34
well the q´s from the alien fascinated lady from Moscow are up there... ;-)

MagnusS, 2006-09-27 10:32:45
Yes, you`re right. Aliens can be like a watery substance without feets and hands, for instance:) Magnus, besides that, do you like reading fiction or fantasy? There are a lot of writers in my diary (the second note on 22.09.2006). If you were me whom would you prefer to read from them? Or you don`t like such kinds of literature? It`s interesting :)
Valeria
Valeria13, 2006-09-26 16:50:18
I actually only read non-fiction. Biographies, travel stories and so on. I might go back to fiction sometime, but for now and for the last 4 years, this has been the case.

It´s a ahsme that it´d difficult to find albums in Ukraine, write at the Forum and ask for help! Perhaps you can trade with something? You know there are nice people on the Forum right?

Hi, Magnus!
This is really something I need to get out of me, the thing is that I'm a brazilian fan of you guys and I became a fan only 2 weeks ago, so, yes, I missed the show here in Brazil... what a shame!!! If only I could turn back time!!! But of course I'm not asking you guys to came here again just because of me, but I know that a lot of people wouldn't mind if you visit Brazil again! I really hope so!
Well, I remember listening to Lovefool, My Favourite Game, Erase Rewind a few years ago and I loved those songs and nowadays a friend of mine showed me music from Long Gone and Super Extra Gravity, and I just couldn't believe what I've been missing! So, my question is how do you guys feel about the newcomers? Do you guys get surprised that new fans can still come up everyday?
Thanks a lot!
P.S.: I'm getting all of your CDs now! It's almost complete!!! ;-)
caioC, 2006-09-26 22:28:40
We feel very fine about newcomers! Hope you´ll like this site of ours, nice people who will help you out finding rare live and studio recordings. The Forum is the place for that.

We hope to come back to Brazil sometime, but shame that you missed the shows, they were great fun!

So welcome!

I`m offering to send your music to the space,Magnus and other members of the band.
I`m keen on astronomy and think that “The Cardigans” write such music, which can be understand by aliens! For instance, this old song “Deuce” for “X-files”. When I listen to you, I imagine botomless universal, galaxies and space ships with pilgrims from the Earth! It`s cool :) If you would send some your mp3-records to the unknown planets, aliens will get in touch with us and have good relationships. And, by the way, I`m not angry as you wrote at “A&Q”. Is my face on the photo full of evil? :) What do you think about aliens? :)
Valeria from Russia!
Valeria13, 2006-09-26 15:58:47
eh I don´t know if there are any aliens out there. And if there are, have they got MP3 players? I can´t see your picture on this Ask the band section, it only works on the Forum.

Hi magnus, it'd my birthday and I have to work but it's been a long time since I made you jump of joy with one of my deep insightful questions.

I'm in love with the new "hot" site YouTube since they have so many MadTv sketches online, here is my favorite, a collection of Abercrombie & Fitch skits; http://youtube.com/watch?v=w3-WzqfbVHU

Take a look and tell me what you think. Does it make you wanna use more scarfs and shirts?

You: We´ll try to E-release live recordings from Kiev and Riga 2003 here , we just need to clear the copyrights. I think you will be touched by these versions of the songs too.
Truly magic stuff.
Me: Giiiiii! Thank you, if it's really true. I was at your first concert in KYIV and I have the video from it made by my friends for one musical program. It's really magical. When I have a bad mood it always make me smile and give me a littla more piece of hapiness from there. Because it was it -the hapiness, the first the biggest and which hasn't repeated with such power again yet. Thank you! This is very very touching!
Kisses and tears of hapiness

yeah you know that... hmm 4 live songs are already released Anya? All of them from Kiev I believe. Look at the B sides for the Fine wine and Daughter singles. We intend to release these full shows once we clear the legal rights and get brother Marco to mix them at Gula studion.

Fr Nikki
nikki_kit, 2006-09-20 22:47:06
Hey Nikki!

Well after a show I want to sit by myself for a while, have a beer and a cigarette and wind down. What I hate is being forced to meet and greet VIP people right after a show. That was the case in USA when we toured Lovefool success in 96-97. Right after the show 10000000 VIP radio people and hangarounds stormed into our dressing room.
And you know how showbiz people in US can be, they´re loud and outgoing, Somewhat a mix of Larry David and the stand up comedian (Dave?) Chapelle... Then we have to wind up again to ... sell ourselves in a showbiz manner. I think that on-off-on-off thing is bad for you. If you max your adrenalin at the end of the show, you need to wind down on your own, just sit by yourself for a while. Then come back to normal.

Don´t know if Nina writes down her dreams but for sure, she tells us some crazy stuff sometimes! ;-)

MagnusS, 2006-09-26 08:29:26
Its not unique nor fun, but heres the question anyway.

Whose heart was so badly smashed up that they wrote an album like "Long gone....?"

It really helped me with my own breakup.

Its one of the most beauthiful albums I have ever heard, and I know what I,m talking about as music was a big part of my life for a long time as I worked for Virgin records from 90-96 and was a seasion muscian for 14 years.

Truly a beautiful LP....well done all.
NeilG, 2006-09-23 18:09:33
Hey!

I think it was a hmm... collective heart smash rather than a personal one. Noone in the band got dumped at the time of that album recording, so I think the bittersweetness is more about going 30, thinking about what we´ll become and so on. The fact that we were so close of breaking up the years before, made this album so precious for us.
I think it shows in songs like Lead me into the night, Feathers and Down, Communication, 03:45 no sleep. It was magic to play these songs live, to be united again as a strong band, knowing that we used to hate the guts of eachother and probably ourselves.

We´ll try to E-release live recordings from Kiev and Riga 2003 here , we just need to clear the copyrights. I think you will be touched by these versions of the songs too.
Truly magic stuff.

I am glad our album made it easier for you, that´s what music is there for!
I even made an album out of that feeling! ;-)

Take care hombre!

Magnus
MagnusS, 2006-09-26 08:28:25
Hello Cardigans:)
I have a question for Nina: Do you write the lyrics with no melody in mind and then set it to the music Peter writes, or do you first listen to the music he writes and then come up with the lyrics to set to the music? Do you come up with the melodies too?

Thanks for making great music
Commish, 2006-09-23 19:26:17
Nina puts lyrics to the music Peter provides us with. The melody is always written by him aswell. On some rare occasions, a lyric idea have brought up a tune. Rise and Shine, I need some fine wine... are examples of that. Perhaps some more, can´t remember at the moment.

Hallo Mags,
thanks for answering my questions on how the music process works with the band.
but here is something else:

now when i think about writing the music, i think about peter.
interacting with the fans - you,my dear :)
lyrics and dealing with the press(mostly) - nina

are there things that goes on with the band (backstage or whatever) that could make me think of bengt and lasse? things that they would be "responsible for" ?

take care,
vivi
vivigomide, 2006-09-23 20:22:00
Lasse is in charge of the merchandise and Bengt is in charge of economy in the band.

Hey Cardigans!
well, i read in somewhere on the internet that you guys (at least Magnus and Peter) were into heavy metal.
And i would like to know if you guys nowadays have some heavy rock project or something like that, i'm also a big fan of the swedish metal, but no one can beat the cardigans! hehe ;)
that's all, thanks for the wonderful super extra tour!
Roberto, Brazil.
robertoIA, 2006-09-24 03:23:34
Yeah Peter is still mainly a metal head. Don´t know if he has any plans for a hobby band in that field though. I think he´s fine with just playing the riffs on his own.
He sure knows his Sabbath and Pantera songs... We´ve all heard them on soundchecks since 1995...

MagnusS, 2006-09-26 08:18:40

Tom
trevone7, 2006-09-25 20:05:46
The only people who can fire Mrs Persson is us, the guys in the band. I think we´ll let her run for another 4 years. As long as she behaves well! ;-)

MagnusS, 2006-09-26 08:16:12
you guys are pure beauty in every way. i can't thank you enough for the music you've created. now for my question. i'm an american who has recently relocated to new zealand.. is there any chance of seeing you down here any time soon? any time at all?
Emptyself, 2006-09-25 22:11:37
Well the tour is over for now. And NZ is sooo far away from Sweden. If you got time, scroll thru my discussions over this matter on this Ask the band section.
My theory is this: Due to the collapse of the record industry, no labels can afford to pay tour support for bands to travel intercontinental. This makes it so hard to finance a tour of Aus and NZ ( and US and other faraway places). I think this will be the future of all midium size bands. All due to downloading....

But hell yeah, I´d love to see NZ, heard great things about the place!
