Hi Josh!

HAve you had any problems having our song on your video?
If not, just go on and do it. If you´ve had problems, contact Universal records, either in Sweden or the UK. Not sure what they´ll say so perhaps better to keep quiet? ;_)

Take care

Hi Magnus,
a while back i managed to obtain Peter's Paus album (not that easy!) he did with Joakim Berg from Kent. have you heard it, and if so what do you think? Personally I quite liked it, though it's a bit different from Kent or the Cardigans.

also, one of the reasons i was interested in it was that i'm a Kent fan as well as the Cardigans, i think they've had a great career and if they did all their music in English they'd be pretty successful. any opinion on them?

lastly, as Peter sings on that album, has it ever been considered that he'd sing on a Cardigans' record?

Cheers,
Simon
simondover, 2009-05-03 21:30:48
Hi!

Well between you and me (and everyone who will read this), Peter and I were engaged in a cold war while he made that album, so I never really listened to it.

Do you listen to Kent in swedish? I much prefer bob hund to them, best band in sweden!

Peter hasn´t sung lead since his fine Carnival puck version back in 95. Shame cause it was a fine version. He´s a good singer, I remember him doing some great Nick Drake songs at a theatre here in Malmo back in ...ohhh... 94? That was truly great!

When you are recording an album, is it usually approached with a certain idea of its direction? I have always wondered how does the band adapt to deadlines? how does this affect your creative process, or does it at all?

Your guys' music is the best to listen to when drawing :D
jaml, 2009-05-13 23:54:50
Hi!

yeah usually we´ve been talking about which way to go next. Then some songs might not want to go in that direction at all.... ;-)
The SEG album turned out a little harsher than we thought from the beginning. I guess our long time producer Tore got tired of our soft side from LGBD. He wanted more outrageous drumsounds on this one..

Deadlines are good, it makes you sharpen your senses don´t think? And after all, we get a bunch of money to deliver goods on a certain date. otherwise the whole Universal records schedule goes to waste. And you don´t want that, belive me! ;-)

Nice to hear that about your drawing. I like listening to Lambchop when I need to wind down and relax, might work for you too?

Take care

Three questions:

1.)
I wonder what your Status is in Sweden. Do people recognize you on the street and ask you for autographs or don't they? I guess in the rest of Europe you can run around freely without being recognized?

2.)
I wonder how you will feel when Swedens Icehockey Team will lose against Austria on 25th April - Vanek in topform and a solid Austrian defense will make it happen.

3.)
If you tour Europe someday - can I be Roadie for a possible future gig in Austria-Vienna?
vanderstaal, 2009-04-21 18:01:18
Hi!

Well, perhaps people recognize me on the streets of Malmo, don´t know. Nina for sure, but for us boys... well maybe. Noone asks for autographs here in our hometown, they´re too cool for that! ;-)

I guess this is kinda old, but Sweden kicked Austria´s ass didn´t they? ;-)

We´ll see if we can fill you in as an intern for a show at Vuk! ;-)

Hola!

There is one old cardigans tab book that was made in Japan back in 96 or so.
I don´t know if it´s correct, all we know is that some of the lyrics were... well not correct but truly funny! But perhaps someone at the Forum has made tabs for some of the songs? Have you checked for tabs on the internet?

Take care and good luck!

Pablo Armella, Chile.
pabloarmella, 2009-05-01 05:28:16
Hola Pablo!

I am sorry if I write you in ingles. I understand most of what you´re writing, but my spanish is not that good....

You´re right, we used to play on lots of vintage instruments during the LIFE album and we still do. All instruments on all our albums have been vintage. I guess the difference is how we´ve produced and recorded the albums. Emmerdale, LIFE and First band on the moon were all recorded on 16 or 24 track analogue tape. Then from GT and on we have used PorTools system.

Peter doesn´t use Line6 in the studio at all, thats only for the live shows. So he brought down a minivan full of amps and guitars from his home in Stockholm.
Then we all used them during the LGBD and SEG recordings. So we use old instruments and amps and then Peter samples these sounds into his Line6 amps.

I don´t know what effect boxes Peter used back in the early days or what he uses now... Sorry... And he has probably used a lot of different amps aswell. But I know he likes the fender twin and fender Princeton a lot.

Hope this answer is ok?

Hello Magnus!

First and foremost, let me tell you the Cardigans' music has been with me for almost two thirds of my life. Thank you! :)

My question is: Is it in the band's plans to make a DVD compilation of the music clips?

Thank you for your time!

Hey Magnus I saw you are on line!
I just wanna tell you that I bought the Righteous Boy album!
I've downloaded some like a year ago but as you might know, have it in its original format it's priceless for a fan.
The bad thing for you (I guess) is that I bought it new for 0.90 pounds. Why so cheap? I hope you get some money from that. You deserve it since you are the artist.
So, I didn't want to make you any Q this time but something pops up in my head right now.
How does all the thing around sales and album with artists? A friend told me that Artists are payed before the album it's released and the artists don't get any money from the sales and that money goes directly to the Music Industry.
But on the other hand I heard that artists get 1 dollar for every album. What's the truth?

Another thing: What do you think about people like me who has to download your music because they can't find your albums in their countries?
I mean, I downloaded your album (I have all the Cardigans album in original format indeed plus aaaaaaaaaall your singles) because it's not available in my country but if I'd had the chance to buy it at that time I would have done it!. Anyways, I bought most of all your sinlges plus A Camp's albums and RB CD via internet but wasn't something easy to do because of the high costs and other stuff...
So what do you think about people who can't afford or are unavailable to buy your music because of geographical reason and they are forced to download illegally your music?

I think that if I really LOVE an artist, I shall buy their albums, but sometimes it's impossible living in some parts of the world.

Thanx Mags! Hope you can understand.
FeDe.ar, 2009-05-05 23:10:36
hey!

to answer you first question, I think both versions are right. it all depends on what kind of record deal the band has. We as the cardigans used to get 1-2 dollars per album up until LGBD when we signed a new contract. Then we got an advance and paid for the recording session and 50% of ther video costs. Since LGBD and SEG didn´t sell that much , we haven´t got any more money. But we did get a great advance ! ;-)

I think that all fans of any band would like to contribute to their carreer. So if you can buy the albums and go to the shows, that´s great. I know that it´s tricky to do so in many countries and we´re not angry at all.

I think you and me as a listener, pays more attention to the music if you buy the album instead of downloading it illegal from internet. If you´ve made an effort you know. I´ve downloaded some stuff and to be honest, I don´t listen to it at all.
it just sits there in my Mac laptop...

Take care

Hi
I just want to say that I have never liked an album more than Long Gone Before Daylight since the Byrds "Notorious Byrd Brothers" (1967?). I have become a strong fan (despite my age) of yours and would like to add to others requests to please keep producing albums. Do you have many live recordings of concerts? - that might satisfy a lot of fans - you could make them downloadable to save admin outlay.

Wishing you all the very best and a wonderfully creative future
Julian
Julianrap, 2009-04-15 17:59:03
Thanks Julian, that´s nice to hear!

Unfortunately we haven´t got any liverecordings at the moment, though we do have material for it. It proved to be so expensive to have them mixed. At least by our cheif mixer Marco.... But there are trade sites where you can get full shows! Check the Forum and ask, plenty of nice people there who can help you!

Take care

U know U all should know that you are the best not the Katy Perry or someone new who is on the top 10. U were and U are the best so U should make some dates but plese also for Europe Austria ? Maybe ? Hope so, just think about that and everyone who loved U will spend time for U.

Hej Magnus-
A lot to say. My friend, you are great. I listen to SEG and LGBD at full volumes in my car; two speakers are blown because of it. I love SEG because they have the bass so strong in the mix and you really play the greatest bass parts in a band in decades.
I have to say, I heard "Lovefool" back in college and thought it was a catchy tune. And that Nina was a foxy Swede. Ten years passed then I bought "Super Extra.." Now that is great music! I stand by that album: it's the best to me. I love the rawness. I remember hearing "In the round" for the first time, and I will never forget it. LGBD, of course, is amazing, but my first taste was SEG, so I stand by it.
My girlfriend is 1/4 Swedish and we love Sweden almost as much as the Cardigans. I wish we had known about you when you were touring the states; but oh well, I never got to see Muddy Waters either. You guys made some great albums, and even if you never play together again, I want you to know that it is enough that you did just that. Your music has changed my life and I'm sure many others across the world. Thank you for the songs.

Thanks a lot man!

Most of the fans here ( and the band) prefer LGBD, but I do like SEG a whole lot aswell. Have you heard the bonustrack from it called " Slow" ? That´s a nice one worth looking for!

I hope we can tour US and Canada again, keep your fingers crossed! ;-)

Hey Magnus,

I'm a huge long-time Cardigans fan, and I play video games way too much. Needless to say I'd love to see a Cardigans/A Camp song on RockBand (or Guitar Hero).

Would you be interested in getting a track on either of these games as downloadable content (DLC)?

I've successfully worked with Harmonix recently to get another band's track on their update list. It doesn't have to be through me of course, but I'm just curious to see if you'd be interested, and if you needed any help I'd be happy to oblige.

Although I could easily see songs like My Favorite Game and Lovefool on their, it'd be especially more amazing if something off the recent album, or even an A Camp track made it.

The key elements I think are just the use of all 4 instruments (guitar, bass, drums & vocals) which shouldn't be too hard considering the vast C/AC library.

Let me know if you think this is possible or if you'd like any advice on getting started.

Hey mags,,

Though it's not offical you are not disbanded yet. Yet should you make a new album would you revisit any of the styles in music or lyrics you used in previous albums? Would you ask singers from other groups to be featured on your album (such as Nina has done) ? Or would you just continue to morph into the unknown and keep us fans guessing and excited what is to come?

Hi - First I think your music is wonderful. I really enjoy the depth of your lyrics and the vivid emotions and images they create in me.

Nina's voice is tremendous, beautiful and unique.

My question. When you create a song do you start with lyrics and then set a song to it or is it the reverse? Do you ever find it difficult to express yourself in English and wish you were using your native tongue?

Patrick (Columbia South Carolina)
zephyr67, 2009-03-19 19:56:59
hej!

Peter usually presents the music for us, sometimes with a hint of lyrics, but usually not. He´s humming nonsense words or sentences to his songs and in some occasions these have developed into real lyrics by Nina. You´re the Storm and Don´t blame your daughter are two songs that come to my mind.
Nina is great at english, so that´s no problem!
